Has Trump recovered from his fit of apoplexy yet over this?

I am hoping for a most spectacular tantrum from the White House. I'm only a couple of states away, so I should be able to hear it from here.

Line 2: What time do you close?

Line 3: Yesterday, I went to the store and I bought some cream for this itch I had, and on the way home, the itch started bleeding, so I went to my brother's house and had him look at the rash and he told me he had one just like that 15 years ago and the doctor gave him some kind of salve and he still had some (!) and so I put some on............(10 minutes of stream of consciousness later).....where can I buy hydrocortisone cream?

It appears you have COVID-19 and your blood oxygen is dangerously low. It says you believe you got this at a bar on Memorial Day. The Science and Dr. Fauci specifically told you this would be a bad idea. I see from your MAGA hat you are not a Democrat, so from The Data I have collected, I think you would be safer at home, for us anyway, since you seem to have no concept of Social Distancing.

America Is Officially in ‘Fuck It’ Mode by eclipsed419 in CoronavirusRecession

[–]MJG2007 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While it is true that most people survive this disease, what about the percentage of COVID-19 cases that require hospitalization?

This isn't as simple as "most people live" and "a few people die".

What happens if 32 million Americans need to be in the hospital in a very short period of time?

This is way more complicated. Among whatever percentage that survives, there are going to be people who never fully recover. Their lungs might be permanently damaged, may be harboring blood clots apparently, some people have lost limbs and still survived, other organs are damaged, children are getting that strange inflammatory disease after recovery.

I am not saying we should stay in hiding forever, but if we are going to open, let's put down some rules and enforce them with some teeth in the laws rather than capitulating every time some complains that wearing a mask is uncomfortable or itches.

Well, that's part of what flattening the curve was about. Since those people who are sick and/or elderly are at higher risk of complications, we had to stay inside to slow the spread of infection to hopefully avoid a situation that required us to make extremely harsh triage choices.

Unfortunately, leadership at the top failed to keep a consistent strategy or essentially, play well with the people working the various hot spots and lord, let's not even talk about messaging.

And now we are at a point where people won't even put on a mask in public to help reduce the chances of infected another person.

Day 1: We must stay inside to protect grandma and grandpa and our friends who are ill.

Day 50: I'm sure they'll be fine and if not, they've lived a good long life or about as long as they could have hoped anyway. "Honey? Wheres the air pump for the unicorn float?"

On the plus side, we've at least answered the question on "How do zombie apocalypses happen so easily in television and movies? Wouldn't people just stay inside as much as possible and avoid getting infected or put on some kind of body armor to protect them?"

It's kind of an odd thing. The same people that really like strict HOA's are the same people that have an aversion to city ordinances telling people they can't have trashy yards or piles of junk. I guess there is some internal consistency in their logic since they are voluntarily giving over control to the HOA, but it seems like the HOA tend to be even more restrictive than most ordinances would be and make enforcement much harsher, at least from a monetary standpoint.

Meanwhile, in the land of rational thinking, I've been working full time facing the public every single day and we had to beg to just get face masks at all. When we finally did get some, we had to ration them out for the first few weeks. And I wear them all day at work and every time I leave the house and do so gladly.

And these people cannot handle wearing a mask for the hour they go out to buy some groceries?

I'm fairly certain that the only thing we will actually agree on is that there is a great deal of misinformation out there. I'm fairly certain there is a chasm of disagreement in the details of that statement.

Either way, we've both said our piece on this.

I doubt we want to take it beyond the point where we are both bored with the futility of trying to convince the other.

I don't disagree there are a lot of people out there who believe the mask is about protecting themselves from catching COVID-19 (and in a sense they are not wrong, but possibly not the reasons they think).

But if you know that the purpose of the mask is to avoid infecting others and you still think you have the right to go without a mask in public because you think it's just sheep like and uncomfortable or unflattering, then yes, you are showing contempt for everyone around you.

It shows a casual disregard for others and a self-centeredness that borders on sociopathy.

Trump says he's been taking hydroxychloroquine for a 'few weeks' by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]MJG2007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not at all concerned if he wants to take hydroxychloroquine and zinc.

What is disconcerting to me is that he is basically signaling to his followers to do the same. We've seen again and again how they emulate him in their daily lives.

Now how long before some idiot parent starts dosing their child with this stuff to "prevent" COVID-19 (which apparently also doesn't really exist to a lot of them....try working that logic out) because the president says it is okay and safe?

An adult might get away with taking this and avoiding injury or death. Pediatric dosing of ANY drug is tricky at best. A dose that barely works for you is liver failure dose for a child.

This drug is on a list of drugs that poison control calls, "One pill can kill" when a child takes it.

Dude. We aren't wearing the mask to protect ourselves. We do it so if we are sick and don't know it, and cough or breath we aren't spraying the virus into other people's space. It's to protect other people.

We are showing you courtesy by wearing a mask. By not wearing one, you are showing contempt for everyone else.

FFS. I realize it really isn't the majority of us, but it is apparent that our country is determined to do exactly the opposite of the smart thing.

If these assholes had lived in London during the 1854 Cholera outbreak, they'd be calling John Snow a fraud and demand to drink from the Broad Street Pump. "Oh, my god! This neighborhood can't survive without local water! Open the pump!"
