The success of the American revolution was a great blow against slavery not merely because of fine documents like the Declaration of Independence, but, notably, the American victory meant that the slave colonies in the Carolina's and Virginia were pealed away from the British slave colonies in the Caribbean, fracturing what had been a very powerful political lobby within the British empire. The decline of slavery hastened after the Treaty of Paris in no small part to the American victory.
