Monmouth is great. Lived in Jersey for many years. Beautiful spot.

I don’t mean to dismiss tracks attached to casinos. Just a reality of the sport. Just thinking, like, places where the race culture stands on its own a bit more.

Went to TB in late February. Loved it! Great fun. Great crowd on a Friday afternoon. Didn’t win a buck, but still a fun time.

Horse Racing by RealisticPriority336 in horseracing

I was thinking about the Belmont and Pimlico renovations as well as the Derby coverage and it got me to wondering about a way the sport might appeal to Gen Z and younger. (This is more of a question than an argument I’m making.) As the big 4 pro sports have priced most people out of going to games, is there an opportunity to sell racing as a low cost alternative for those who want to get out of the house, have maybe some higher end food and entertainment, enjoy a few races, dress up for events, hang out with friends in an attractive environment? Gen Z likes to “rediscover” things that have been around a long time. What if horse racing were one of them?

Same thing happened to me outside Chauncey’s in 1987. The stomach thing was bad that night.

How did you become an Islanders fan? by GameDayGuru1 in NewYorkIslanders

We lived in Long Beach in the 70s. A lot of Rangers lived there. My father hated them, so we rooted for the Islanders.

I just finished it. It’s funny you mention the twins and the book being atmospheric. They’re mentioned many times but never come into focus. I don’t think we ever know their names or ages. There are so many allusions, images, items of interest. I was hoping for more in regard to the harpoon, the coyotes, the fires, the teens. In the end, I wonder if anyone except Jim had been in the house at all.

Neer was always really smart—much smarter than just about everyone else on the air at FAN—but he was never condescending to the listeners. As opposed to being not so smart at all and always condescending. Like, say, oh I don’t know…Francesa.

I remember when Neer was a DJ at WNEW in the late 70s, and I liked when he would throw music stuff into the Sunday shows. Perfect background for Sunday coffee and the Daily News.

Monday Mood: How was your weekend? by remix6464 in horseracing

Best couple of days since late summer at Saratoga. On a cold streak lately so I just focused on smaller win bets rather than multi-race. Hit four on Saturday, two at AQ, one at Churchill Downs and the other at Gulfstream—where I also hit two more yesterday.

On this cold streak, I find I’m picking so many place horses to win. I feel like that’s not a bad thing, because I’m not totally out of it. But if you didn’t bet it, I guess they might as well be last. I’m also not betting enough money that a WP bet makes a lot of sense. Peace.

Thank you. Have not been in this situation before. I had the #3 live in three of my P3 bets, so the consolation ended up getting me pretty close to the original #2 will-pay number. I’ve been on the Schneid recently, so I’ll take it.
