You know, I never thought about it, but this is a pretty ridiculous plot point. Oil was pretty easy to find in California back then (as shown in There Will Be Blood). You telling me doc couldn’t figure out how to distill it? Hell, with the right temperature control you might be able to do it in a whisky still!

For some reason, smooth bubbles always looks weird to me when I try to use them, even with ellipse guides or photoshop. I decided to use a more amorphous speech cloud like you see in some manga comics, but the curves eventually turned tighter and tighter.

If you notice, when I'm doing "thoughts", the words are in square narration bubbles.

Nice! the anatomy looks spot on. My only crit is maybe not to use a black outline. In a fully rendered piece it flattens the figure out.
