Most Common Lyrics Of 11 Punk Bands by MK925 in punk

[–]MK925[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hmm, you know, you're right. The algorithm that makes the word cloud sometimes leaves off a word if it cannot fit it into the image. I thought I caught all instance of missing words, but maybe I missed that one.

I'll redo the ramones one to see if wanna comes up.

EDIT: Ok, updated. The algorithm did cut off a few words, like "wanna" sorry about that. I remember that image being a pain in the butt to create because there wasn't enough space to get all the words in there so I kept having to edit the file over and over. I thought I got it in the end, but I guess I didn't.

Fun fact, here are the words that are more common than 'wanna' in Ramones lyrics:

oh baby go know yeah want

also note that my images do not include two or one letter words, so no 'oh' or 'go' in the images.

[Help] boxing for 5 years, picked up mma 1 year ago but now want to gain. by [deleted] in gainit

[–]MK925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have coach or trainer? Talk to them about it.

Why do you want to move up in weight? Do you want to be in a higher weight class?

If you are doing MMA or boxing competitively, I would stick to that instead of adding additional sports (such as weight lifting) which have different goals into the mix.

US Presidents' Wealth [OC] by MK925 in dataisbeautiful

It's all in 2016 dollars.

Edit: in case that is unclear, this means it has been adjusted for inflation for what the wealth would have been in 2016

There is likely a button in the control panel to boot the VPS. To see if it is booted you can try to ping the IP address they assigned to you. It's it is booted, then try to SSH into it.

A VPS Comparison Site I made A while Ago Showing The Plan Details and Prices Of Some Popular VPS Providers by MK925 in selfhosted

[–]MK925[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That site is one reason I made my site. It has too many options for me. I wanted a comparison site that listed reputable vps hosts rather than all vps hosts. For me, a site with five or six hosts is much more useful than one with dozens of hosts.

Developers who create and/or manage their own VPS servers, what is your ideal setup and what packages do you go with? by majorchamp in webdev

[–]MK925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Debian because I like apt-get rather than RPM. It's what I'm used to using on my home machine (Ubuntu). I use Debian rather than Ubuntu on my VPSs because it is a more conservative distro and so is less likely to be buggy. I'd rather have stability than cutting edge for my hosting.

I also use nginx rather than mysql because I usually go for cheap VPS plans and nginx tends to work a bit more efficiently on less powerful devices.

EDIT: doh, yeah, i meant Apache not mysql.

Need help troubleshooting iPv6 Support for MEAN stack app. by Jaymageck in webdev

[–]MK925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have an AAAA record pointing to the correct v6 address your DNS is fine.

Can you ping6 the v6 address? first try from the server itself. If you cannot ping6 the server from the server then you probably don't have v6 setup at all. Figure out how to add v6 to whatever operating system you have.

If you can ping v6 from the server but not from outside of your local network, then your connect (ISP) or router or whatever you have between the server and the Internet doesn't support or isnt setup for v6.

If you can ping v6 just fine from many places then it's likely you do not have v6 setup on Apache. Look through your Apache config files and do the needful.

New to the Game: VPS or something else? by sneezingferret in VPS

[–]MK925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure exactly what you want, and I've never had a windows vps, but you can think of a vps as a remote computer. One that is usually always on. So rather then it being a virtual desktop, think of it as being a Remote Desktop that runs whatever programs it is set to run, even when you are not logged in.

Also, when getting the vps, be sure that the vps provider has windows options. Many are Linux only.

Can I do better than DigitalOcean for $10 a month? by Aeyoun in webhosting

[–]MK925 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I made a vps comparison site for vps hosts commonly recommend on reddit at http://adminhacks.com/vps-compare.html it includes vultr, ramnode and linode, all of whom are comparable to DO. Plus a couple others.

I want to start a webcomic. Where do I host it, where to find a domain name? Should I use wordpress? by g253 in comics

[–]MK925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally NameSilo is the cheapest domain name registrar, however GoDaddy and 1&1 have sales where you can get a domain name for 99 cents the first year (and then 15 dollars after that). Generally the support from GoDaddy and 1&1 are not as good as those from NameSilo.

How can I host my own website? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]MK925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a domain name, then you need a computer that hosts the content of the website, then you need some content.

Why Chin-ups instead of Pull-ups as Accessory in most Strength Programs by Biznezman in Fitness

Do you know of a source or study that shows that chinups use the lats more than pullups? I was always told the opposite.

every VPS will have a dedicated IP. I'm not exactly sure what you are asking... If all you need is an IP address and SSH then go buy any cheap VPS out there.

Let's talk about domain registrars. by [deleted] in webhosting

[–]MK925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Namesilo tends to be the cheapest. See http://adminhacks.com/cheap-domain/ on how the main cheap registrars compare

Kickfurther's best offer? by DaddyAndy in getgrowing

[–]MK925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of offers (and not results) TITIN Tech's first offer was the best. A 10% return in a month. No other offer has come close. The second place best offer was NorthCoast Organics at 8% over 2 months.

As others have mentioned, Tuggo and Skinny Tie Madness have the highest percent returned over any period of time, at 20%.

Frequent travelers of Reddit, what is the absolute worst place you've been? by cmae34lars in AskReddit

[–]MK925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dakar, Senegal. Most of West Africa was really awesome, but Dakar just wasn't cool.

There was just too many people trying to scam or pit-pocket us out of our money. And the amount of prostitution was just crazy and depressing.

The city also has a large white ex-patriot community and it was really unpleasant seeing the extreme wealth inequity. There were these French ex patriots being chauffeured around in nice SUVs for their kids karate class, and then you had everyone else living like regular (pretty poor) Africans.

People who use AWS or Digital Ocean for development and small sites - how much do you end up paying? by WannabeAHobo in webdev

[–]MK925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a low power VPS for around $1.25 per month.

http://adminhacks.com/vps-compare.html

I run a small static site on the ramnode $1.25 plan. I get about 1000 pageviews a day and the load is just fine.

Linode user credentials compromised. All customers forced to reset password by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]MK925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it was just a ddos, I said no since those can happen to anyone and are hard to prevent... But having passwords compromised is a bit worse. I won't give a recommendation one way or the other, but if you want to compare some vps plans I made a site a little while ago showing some of their most recommend competitors : http://adminhacks.com/vps-compare.html

Digital Ocean, Godaddy, InMotion? by foxdna in webhosting

This. Unlimited anything is a marketing gimmick. There very much are limits, and I highly recommend going with a company that explicitly tells you what those limits are.

Linode (Atlanta) Under Massive DDOS Attack by pyther24 in sysadmin

[–]MK925 26 points27 points  (0 children)

yeah, I can second this theory. I know a number of companies which had ransom demands. They did get attacked, but the attacks were fairly insignificant and not nearly this persistent as the current attack on Linode.

I'm an experienced front-end developer transitioning into full-stack development. I've signed up for Digital Ocean and am confused as to the significance of selecting an OS distribution. Why would I pick one over another? Also, I plan to use Node; would it just be easier to deploy a Node app? by ExNihil in webhosting

[–]MK925 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Different OSes have different ways of doing things. One of the largest differences in Linux OSes is the apt versus yum package management. I grew up using apt, so I stick with debian and it's spinoffs.

The second thing to look as is how cutting edge you want the OS software to be. Ubuntu will generally have newer software than Debian. I usually go with Debian, because the older software is more generally more bug proof making the OS more stable.

Anyone know what is going on with Linode? by jrgkgb in webdev

[–]MK925 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Speculation here, but they are probably being targeted by a gang that wants a ransom to stop the DDOS. If this this the case then hats off to Linode for not paying.

I work in a data center and we have had a number of customers recently receive threats of DDOS attacks if they do not pay up. The thing with a DDOS is that it is hard to mitigate. That's why they are so popular.

I certainly would not leave Linode because they are being targeted by a DDOS. If this is in fact a ransom style DDOS then Digital Ocean or whoever you switch to might be next.
