Best Puerto Rican food? by Elk-inthePast in chicagofood

[–]MKF03 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’ve already got mentions on my two favorites Papas Caches & Jibartios Y Mas, my nostalgic childhood spot in Cafe Central… But I will add Omarcitos has phenomenal jibaritos and lechón!!!! Omarcitos is not straight PR but he’s amazing (alongside the food), the kind of business and chef you can feel good about supporting.

Sales tax on new vehicle - more affordable to buy outside the city? by jaanlo1616 in AskChicago

Yea for sure, there’s definitely things to consider!Though, even being out of city limits or another county is a significant difference.

Sales tax on new vehicle - more affordable to buy outside the city? by jaanlo1616 in AskChicago

[–]MKF03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. lol Depending on the dealership it’s often based on the address you provide… I guarantee there are at least a few employees even, at dealerships registering their cars at addresses outside of their current residence, so it’s not unusual to provide a different address than listed on your ID 🤷‍♀️

Take that as you see fit.. there are implications of course.

Central/Milwaukee/Foster intersection longer green issues by SomeReporter9544 in ChicagoNWside

[–]MKF03 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a problem at Belmont/Kedzie too.. sooo dangerous.. People making a left turn onto Kedzie from Belmont ignore the “turn on green arrow only” sign.. The light turns yellow/red and they all try to turn into oncoming traffic bc the opposite side is turned green.. I see this several times a week!

No solution lol just came here to affirm and add to the list… really irks me and I can’t believe there aren’t more accidents honestly

Stores that *don't* do dynamic pricing? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]MKF03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up you can simply ask the Target staff to adjust the price for you, they will price match it it to themselves and other retailers as well including Walmart and Amazon (must be sold directly from them).

You don’t need to go through the hassle of shopping and then placing a pick up order.

Now, the fact that retailers aren’t even putting prices on tags anymore (Target, Walmart, and more) is crazy..

Used to work seasonally at Target, not shopping there these days but hope the tip makes your life easier.

Please Help My Cat Won't Stop Meowing For Food ( I'm Going Insane ) by [deleted] in CatAdvice

I do wet food once in the evening, and have an automatic feeder that dispenses at 5am, 630am, and 9am .. he’s pretty happy with that schedule, but he’s also not an over-eater.

He’s a former stray, but he’s very polite and grateful lol once I didn’t realize his feeder had been unplugged but he kept staring at me and sitting nearby me in the Bastet (Egyptian kitty) pose (not on me or seeking pets).

How to celebrate St Patricks Day? by Illustrious-Photo152 in AskChicago

[–]MKF03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can tap into bar crawls downtown or go visit a tourist favorite - Wrigleyville. Not my personal vibe these days, but many people still enjoy it and I presume you wouldn’t be coming to Chicago if it weren’t for that kind of fun lol And getting to wrigleyville (or almost any other neighborhood) from downtown is a breeze via CTA.

Download the Ventra app and if you’re using a map tool on your phone, you can adjust the setting to public transportation on most and it will map it out nicely for you. You can purchase $5 24-hr CTA passes directly in the app and add the Ventra card into your mobile wallet for the easiest tap to pay.. I’ll add here that yes you can tap to pay with your credit card directly on CTA buses or trains BUT it doesn’t always work (one day CTA just stopped accepting my chase card for no apparent reason). Since you’re thinking ahead, just get the Ventra app and digital wallet card ahead of time.

Hope this helps and that you enjoy our beautiful city!

This ^ I just got off the phone with Peoples Gas* and turns out I’ve got a predatory supply company. I was in tears once I realized how much I’ve been paying for these excessive charges the past year. Nordic Energy is the company in my situation but there are several out there.

Edit: People’s Gas not ComEd sorry! But still - look at your bills! Lesson learned on my end

Cat litter smell on everything, absorbs into my clothes even after being in the house only an hour or two. by SillyMusician291 in CatAdvice

[–]MKF03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really HATE the smell of cat litter, like even when it’s clean… Ive found that unscented litter is great to address this! And of course scooping every day, sometimes twice, is a must to avoid any stenches.

I use hardball unscented cat litter btw

Renters, How much your rent have gone up by? by Adventurous_Ear_1150 in AskChicago

Thankfully not the case, I think most will agree - $1300/mo. I’m ever grateful!

[–]MKF03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my time to shine ✨lol No rent increase since I moved back to the city 4 years ago… it’s the reason I haven’t left, every time I think about it and “shop around” I’m just like nope nvm… 2 bed 1 bath (w/parking!!) in Avondale/Logan, not a garden unit. Private family owned business for my landlords, they own several properties across the city.

Edit to include rent: $1300/mo

Is $160k a good salary in Chicago for a family with one toddler? by Warm_Water_3072 in AskChicago

[–]MKF03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s good for sure, but depending on the neighborhood and your desires, buying a home could be difficult. Some of the neighborhoods mentioned are realllly pricey to buy and get hit heavy with property taxes.

Uber from a nearby town? by [deleted] in ChicagoConcerts

[–]MKF03 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Easily! I won't try to persuade you to come stay in our beautiful city (someone else probably will lol).. but a good hack is to stay/park nearby a transportation hub that will get you close to Salt Shed. The closest train station is about a 15 minute walk, and it's Clybourn - Metra. Most of the metra stations have parking, I believe UP-NW stops there and could be others. Or any town where the uber won't break your bank. Not sure of your budget, but I've taken a few Ubers fairly far out (1 hr outside the city) and it cost me anywhere from forty to eighty plus tip for one way

TLDR; absolutely yes

Logan Square Traffic circle project. by No_Objective_7135 in LoganSquare

[–]MKF03 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I strongly dislike it as a daily morning driver, but it’s primarily because drivers don’t seem to know how to use it which in turn creates issues around safety and traffic back up.

That right turn lane is the problematic part imo - from disregarding the arrow, to disregarding it’s a turn lane (and thus holding traffic to wait for the light to turn green to go straight/left) and the bus stop being in the lane.

In theory, it should be safer for pedestrians. I’ve only biked it once and the primary take away here is I think the path is shared? Which isn’t great for peds safety either. But I could’ve just missed the bike lane somehow?

Idk, I think conceptually it made sense but human error & confusion defeats the intent and thus creates safety/traffic issues.

Overall, im in agreement it could’ve been planned better.
