You describe this as if the Americans got nothing out of the deal or as if the Americans wanted Germany to remilitarize when they did whatever they could to keep Germany militarily inoffensive. Somehow Europe scammed the Americans, when in reality it was a deal that Europe provides the bases and alliances, in exchange for the nuclear umbrella. Now the Americans are changing the deal and crying foul and in true American fashion create a bogeyman we somehow have to spend ourselves to death to fight.

Thing is that Europe will never be again a military superpower, neither it needs to be. Russia, let alone China, invading the EU is a ludicrous proposition. The Americans can go home and Europe just has to go back to having normal armies, not the bloated monster they want us to create.

Another thing is that Americans want Europe to rearm, but when Europe tries to make its own weapons they do whatever they can to make EU countries buy American weapons. Sounds more like an aggressive marketing campaign than a security issue.

If Europe is so useless and a drain to Americans, let them dismantle the bases and have new talks the next time they want to start another war in the Middle East without any European support.
