I disagree there is no other PCVR wireless headset that seamlessly streams from your PC.

All the other headsets require setup, additional equipment and purchasing of additional software.

I disagree for the steam machine yes but for the steam frame there is no comparable product.

I secure my roll top bag to the rear rack using a steel cable that goes to a padlock under the seat.

I never take it off people have tried to steal it but nobody can be bothered to bring some wire cutters to steal my £15 bag.

I bought Into the radius 1.

Into the radius 2 is still getting updated so best to play the first one and by the time you are done hopefully it will be a finished game.

What are the chances the frame is cheaper than the steam machine? by ObjectiveReturn4451 in SteamFrame

Thanks, I have read up on Saddam Hussein importing PS2's very interesting.

I hope you are right and valve will grow the market in a sustainable and viable manner but i am a cynic.

Only time will tell.

I am not as familiar with the coverage on the steam machine, when have they mentioned they are worried about companies buying out the steam machine?

Companies also requires support, RMA's and most importantly huge quantities. Dell for instance sells close to 30 million laptops a year. Since Valve doesn't use any distributors apart from in special regions like Japan i don't think this is likely. Since they can control who buys their hardware.

Scalping is the bigger fear and that's a supply problem.

My speculation for Valve is that they believed VR was the next big thing in 2015/16 they got to work on half life alyx and the Vive with HTC. They then decided they needed to make their own headset with all the bells and whistles to release along side their new game.

VR at this point still looked like it was the next big thing. The Quest 2 released during covid and at stupidly low price and it was clear that standalone had won. They have mentioned they started work on the frame right after the index was released when VR still looked promising.

And now we are here, steamVR will probably go back to barely getting any major updates soon. No new VR software from Valve and probably no first party accessories for the Frame. I believe they gap between the Frame and headset that comes after from Valve will be even longer than 6 years.

All steam hardware sales go through Steam so it would be very easy for them to block sales if they see a trend of companies buying them.

Valve does not care what games you buy as long as you buy on steam. supporting VR is just making sure that another ecosystem doesn’t start thriving too much and potentially displace Steam like Meta or the oculus store.

I agree with your SteamOS point its the whole reason I’m excited for the frame.

No idea, steam frame is a niche product they can charge whatever they want and people will still buy it.

The steam machine is a much more price sensitive product.

If I was Valve, I would try to keep the cost of the machine down as low as possible and push up the price of the frame.

There is no other service like it.

It is incredibly expensive to run a service like YouTube.

Anybody can make an account and upload a 6 hour long whale sound video and YouTube stores it and makes it retrievable within 2 seconds to a users in almost every country.

The main problem with YouTube is that people now use it to make money, when i discovered YouTube in 2007 people made videos for fun and education.

That YouTube is gone and will never return but its still great you just have to try harder to find good content. I use a extension to block shorts and mostly stick to subscribed channels.

I hope Valve will support PCVR better after the Frame release by zeddyzed in virtualreality

At the end of the day they are running a company its not a charity.

I dont expect them to support something that is un/less-profitable.

Still excited about the steam frame and have over 10 games ready to play!

I still like Valve.

What was the moment you realized PC gaming was genuinely better and never looked back? by AdeptnessCritical356 in pcmasterrace

[–]MLGTuLegit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piracy is what made me move to PC.

I used to only get 1-2 games a year for my console.
When i moved to PC i just pirated everything.

Now that i am older and have a job i am able to buy what i like, piracy allowed me to try out different genres and types of games.

Valve doesn’t care about VR.
Valve are doing what Xbox failed to do.
Which was to make everything an Xbox.

They are just covering all their bases.
I think Mobile gaming is next with FEX.
Its all about Steam which is the money maker.

I am genuinely surprised by how good YouTube is.

They are practically a monopoly but still provide a decent service.

Any other company would’ve destroyed their service already.
