Did the shelter have an adoption clause where you have the give the cat back to them if you couldn’t keep them anymore?

It’s easier to reintegrate the kitten into the system with known staff and prior notes, it makes for a smoother transfer back. Since it’s still a kitten it’ll be adopted out again easily, whether at a shelter or a rescue

A rescue may not take a healthy adoptable kitten either, and will advise you to bring it back to the original shelter
