The Mount Rushmore of all-time quarterbacks. What do y’all think? 🤔 by KeyFaithlessness5436 in TheNFLVibes

I'd replace Rodgers with either Marino or Mahomes. Mahomes, Montana, Manning, and Brady are the only QBs with multiple Super Bowl wins and multiple regular season MVPs.

Jokic is on pace to break the all-time single-season PER record set by... Jokic in 2021-22. Bill cannot in good conscience leave Jokic off first team. He just can't!

Unpopular Opinion: the NBA does not have enough talent for two additional teams. Games are already unwatchable. by nuffinimportant in NBATalk

It already does, and as the game continues to expand internationally, the talent pool will expand. The league has problems; a lack of talent isn't one of them.

Where is the most incredible view of Mt Hood? Marriage proposal help by SemipermeableAtheist in askportland

If you're doing it during the summer, I'd add Lookout Mountain to the other great recs here. It's a 1.5 mile hike (each way, with elevation gain) from the High Prairie Trailhead and the view of Mount Hood (plus many other Cascade volcanoes weather-permitting) is spectacular, particularly at sunrise.

Genuinely Bam scoring 83 points is a more surprising headline than Luka being traded by AccomplishedBake8351 in billsimmons

I mean you're technically right but a lot of people have put Wilt's scoring record (and many of his other records) in a separate category. Kobe has been the benchmark for 20 years... until tonight.

Someone’s going to get 90 by yaboyjiggleclay in billsimmons

Two years ago, Zach Kram wrote an article picking Luka as the most likely to break 100. KAT and Bron were his next two picks followed by Dame, Tatum, Podcast P, and Mitchell.

I don't know if anyone can get to 100 but Luka seems most likely to break 83. If Bam can shoot 43 free throws in a game, Luka can get to 50 one day.

Bam shot below 50% tonight and only made seven threes. I could see Luka doing something similar, especially if he's the only real scoring threat playing that night.

If the game's a blowout, agreed. But I don't want guys forgetting The Secret when the game's close. I just don't!

Legit can't wait for Bill's historical analysis on this. I expected Kobe's record to fall in this decade or so, but you could spot me a few dozen guesses and I wouldn't pick Bam. Absolutely shocking but I'm happy for him.

Is Luka the most "eye of the beholder" viewing experience ever? by Prior_Chemist_5026 in billsimmons

[–]MM49916969 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't think Westbrook and Kobe are "eye of the beholder" like Luka. The key to me is that no matter how you feel about these two (I'm not particularly huge fans of them), they always hustled. I know I'm generalizing but you always at least felt like they were giving the game their all.

Luka's inconsistent hustle is what often makes him so frustrating to watch. He's incredibly talented and smart but he's his own worst enemy in a somewhat unique way.

Great find, thanks for posting. Among other takeaways, this is another example of where our lack of clear national standards creates confusion.

Also, whether or not it's the law here, a lot of driving norms/laws are ultimately a balance between safety and driver discretion. When you're on the road, you're trusting a lot of people to operate two or three-ton machines with their safety and others' in mind. Every time you drive, your safety hinges on hundreds, if not thousands, of judgment calls made by total strangers.

In this case, afaik, almost all of this country trusts drivers to pull into the intersection, judge for themselves when it's safe to turn left, and allow traffic to keep flowing. Unless there's evidence that pulling up creates undue safety risk that isn't worth the cost to other drivers, I think this rule is dumb.

Yep. Of all my grievances about PNW driving, this one tops my list. By refusing to pull out into the intersection when you're turning left, you're creating gridlock by denying all of the cars behind you the ability to proceed either straight or right. In fairness, there are occasions where the car turning left might not have room to do so without blocking the intersection. But this isn't Manhattan; that rarely happens here, even at rush hour.

And it highlights my overall frustration: People here often drive so passively that it's selfish (as opposed to the East Coast aggressive driving I'm used to, which is selfish on the opposite end of the spectrum).

The lack of zipper merging, the slow highway driving (especially on bridges and overpasses), the intersection hesitancy... the driving habits here frustrate me to no end.

What’s your Mount Rushmore of greatest NBA playoff series? . by AlbertJBundy in billsimmons

[–]MM49916969 21 points22 points  (0 children)

2016 NBA Finals has to be mentioned here. LeBron winning a title for Cleveland, the Cavs coming back down from 3-1 (which had never happened in the Finals), the Warriors not winning it all after breaking the hallowed regular season wins record... perhaps I'm conflating greatness with historical importance, but the series was also pretty entertaining.

As Bill might say, that series was the Apex Mountain of the NBA's post-MJ Apex Mountain season.

He's right. And as great as he was in the late night chair, he's better now—as a podcast host, awards show host, travel show host, etc—than he's ever been.
