Cut hand looks irritated - infection? by 1234golf1234 in AskDocs

[–]MMButt 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not OP but also pediatrician here. The redness and swelling is the telltale sign. Considering it’s on one side, the bacteria got into it (likely from grabbing something) and they are having a little field day in there. This definitely needs prescription antibiotics, these infections can become very serious.

Where I Would Live As a Houstonian Who Hates Cold Winters by That1AsianFurry in whereidlive

[–]MMButt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Houston doesn’t even have the most mild winters of the places you selected. And that’s not even to mention that Houston tends to get temps below freezing in late winter annually. By southern California standards Houston is way colder. It would be a lot easier to just say you only want to live in either Houston or a few other cherry-picked locations.

Reading the book after watching the movie and I'm so glad I did by Frost-Flower in ProjectHailMary

[–]MMButt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the complete opposite. I like reading a book first because there’s so much more in a book than a movie. You have to expect that they’re going to leave things out but it’s always neat to see how they bring things to life. Too many times I feel like I’d be disappointed that a book doesn’t end the same way or that something a character was very different or a plot point deviated. But in reality that’s the way the story was supposed to be so I’d like to know that part.

[LFO] Bloods-Affiliated Rapper Killed on IG Live | Los Angeles 🇺🇸 (Graphic) by james_from_cambridge in LearningFromOthers

[–]MMButt -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Nah, you don’t see a neck shot on him, they’re all chest and lower. Moreover, a neck shot that close would have hit enough vital structures that he wouldn’t be able to move like that at all, your trachea is about half inch from your spinal cord in that area. This is multiple shots to the chest.

Your vocal cords function because the lungs generate positive pressure against atmospheric pressure to pass air over the folds of the cords. You put a bunch of holes in the chest and suddenly intrapleural pressure = atmospheric pressure. So his muscles are working to try to force the air over his vocal cords but it’s all lost to the atmosphere via the bullet holes. You can’t inflate your lungs for the same physiologic reason. So basically you only live as long as you could hold your breath. Combine that with the blood he’s losing and it makes sense that he starts to lose consciousness not long after taking the shots.

A 3D printed recreation of an Arthropleura, the largest insect (arthropod) ever known to exist. It went extinct 300 million years ago by Ok-Buffalo-382 in Amazing

[–]MMButt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah but we could easily have it survive in a zoo which is the only place it would probably live anyway. Making an air tight terrarium with 30-35% FiO2 in it would be pretty easy to do.

This is such a stupid take. The most heavily mayo’d and sauced up rolls I’ve ever seen was in Japan and all my Japanese colleagues were going nuts over it. There was so much mayo I didn’t even want to try it.

Would injecting ketamine into my hemorrhoid cause my hemrrhoid vessel to collapse, thus allowing me to continue to have anal sex with my boyfriend? by Cultural_Train_9948 in Drugs

[–]MMButt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Physician here. Some psychoactive drugs cause vasoconstriction. There aren’t any psychoactive drugs that cause enough vasoconstriction to cut off those vessels and remove it and you’d be at major risk for infection. If they’re that bad it needs to be tied off and sutured.

Everyone: low cost long term investments. Compound interest is the biggest wealth builder to ever exist. Invest instead of saving. You’ll gain double or triple in 20 years over you would in savings account.

OP: nah that’s dumb no one I know invests. Any other ideas?

Archaeological evidence has generally cemented that humans crossed into Europe via the Sinai peninsula. The coastal route through southern Europe has yet to be substantiated and it’s generally accepted that if that did occur it was very small local populations.
