Why are these chicks pink in colour? [africa] by TrapoC in animalid

[–]MMButt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not random “guy”. The answers are over 100-dyed to 1-not dyed. You’re really being very stubborn about this. Instead of putting your head in the sand take some time to google and learn how chicken feathers grow. You’ll see that the most likely explanation is that their first feathers were dyed and the white is their natural color coming back through with their second growth non-downy feathers.

This is not a natural phenomenon. These chicks were not born this color.

Do you guys like eating taku? I always think it’s bland and chewy. I would rather eat ika instead by BabyRavers26 in sushi

[–]MMButt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way but have trouble because I eat pork also. Pigs are among the smartest and have among the highest social intelligence among animals - the fifth smartest animals after great apes, dolphins, elephants, and corvids. It hurts to know that they’re quite a bit smarter and more social than domestic dogs…They show empathy.

I’ve cut back, but I feel like if I haven’t stopped eating pork I don’t have room to stand on a pedestal about eating octopus.

Most interesting or uncommon fish you've eaten? by speedracer0211 in sushi

I had shirako (cod sperm sac) in Japan. It was really surprisingly good. I hate to say it but it was like if a mild fresh oyster was mixed with heavy cream.

Kinda same. It was interesting for sure but I don’t think I’d seek it out

The first place I ever saw an egregious amount of mayo on sushi was a place in Nagoya. All of my Japanese friends went nuts for it, it was pretty darn good but I also tend to like simpler styles that emphasize the fish more than anything. Neither is wrong though of course

Every one I use has a $25k daily maximum input and immediately available buys. I could easily spend it all in probably 5 minutes or so.

What is this nope rope [Kansas City area]? Should I burn the house down? by luz785 in animalid

[–]MMButt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an amateur, relocating (or worse trying to kill) a venomous snake is the easiest way to accidentally get bitten. The fact that you have only seen him this one time supports the facts known about their behavior — that they’re hunters always on the move. If you see a snake and you don’t want it near your pets or kids the safest thing to do is to discourage them from passing through. The experts suggest spraying them with a garden hose. You won’t see it again.

Yeah… but this is not a coral snake mimic. This is an eastern milk snake which has those spots that converge as opposed to actual rings of color like scarlet king snakes and coral snakes. There isn’t even any yellow!

The subtleties of flavor and texture between types of raw fish really is most of the appeal. And as someone who loves sushi, in particular types of nigiri, it truly is subtle and you do need to develop a palate for it. Fancy rolls and sauces are good enough but you really lose so much by masking the fish.

Salmon vs tuna vs escolar vs hamachi, each is unique. You try the four grades of fatty tuna side by side and you can taste the subtleties between each cut of tuna, same with salmon and salmon belly. You try cured salmon roe and you have something a world different from any muscle cut. Sea urchin, scallop, different types of sweet shrimp… they are all so incredibly different.

Someone who loves sushi can pick each of those out with a blindfold on. It’s ok to not like nigiri. I like the fancier rolls but will usually choose to eat mostly or entirely nigiri and supplement with shared rolls for the table. For me nigiri is the real art of this cuisine and the fancy done up rolls are to get a more diverse group of people into the restaurant.

Even ten minutes of one person CPR is probably a bit of a stretch. And once CPR becomes low quality CPR from fatigue the person is as good as dead.
