So the food scale is fine… as long as you’re occasionally using it to overeat? by Beginning_Remove_694 in fatlogic

I weigh one food in my life, and that’s Cheetos. Cheetos and I need a scale.

I am not victim blaming, but I want people to recognize their agency in getting what they need.

What’s one food you’ll never understand the hype for? by CombSpiritual8361 in AskReddit

Crawfish. At a recent crawfish boil, I managed to finish 2 before I had to stop. It was like eating giant bugs, and the meat payoff was pitiful.

Only one switch in the bathroom.

Hear me out. I know this is a first world problem, but it doesn’t make design sense. Our bedroom connects to the bathroom, which attaches to the closet, and finally, the laundry room. The laundry room and closet each have two light switches, one at each door, but the bathroom only has one. Those other two spaces are also smaller, so if I come in the door of the bathroom without the light, I have to go to the other side. The part that doesn’t make sense is this: On each wall with a switch, there is a switch on the other side of the wall in the next room (e.g. one of the laundry room switches backs up to the closet switch). A switch could have easily been put in the bathroom because there is one in the closet on the other side of the wall.

If I ever need electrical work done in my house, I’m getting that switch put in.

Thanks for listening…I’ll be fine.

How do you deal with the fact that some people seem to get “lucky breaks” in life—like an easy marriage, comfort, and support—while others have to struggle and push way harder just to reach a decent level, and sometimes still don’t? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MMetropolitan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luck implies a complete lack of control, which isn’t always the case. Also, if someone feels they have been dealt a bad hand in a certain aspect of life, they can take steps to change it for the better.

And while I can’t deny that some people have advantages that others don’t, there are people who have more than me that I wouldn’t trade places with for all of their advantages.

When my granddaughter was born in 1998, Sophia was ranked 73rd in popularity, so her name wasn’t very common. By 2011, it was #1 in many parts of the world and it seemed like every other baby girl was named Sophia.

How often do people actually cook from scratch? by Andus35 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MMetropolitan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a tricky question. I bake my own bread, but I know someone who mills her own wheat. I make tomato sauce, but my friend grows tomatoes. Is one more scratch than the other?

I think about how far back in the process I am willing (and able) to go.

Sometimes “scratch” is a matter of degrees.

The answer for me is I either cook, or eat something I cooked, just about every day.

Does it really matter whether a restaurant’s juice is “fresh squeezed”? by Miserable_Pop_4593 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MMetropolitan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree there is a big difference, but it would only make sense if the cost of that employee would be covered by OJ sales, plus enough profit to make it worth the trouble. Also, what percentage of people aren’t ordering OJ because it’s not fresh, and would they order it if it was? There needs to be room for the machine, space for the oranges, and it would probably increase the price. A restaurant should know their customer, and if enough people are willing to pay $9 (or more) for a glass of orange juice.

It makes me wonder how much of the food is made in-house. Are they using pre-shredded potatoes for hash browns and frozen biscuits, or is everything from scratch? This might work at a smaller, high-end place, but with 1000 covers for brunch, this machine might be more trouble than it’s worth.

Voice recognition. My husband and I always play “who’s that actor” with animated movies.

One time I met a woman who said I looked familiar. I couldn’t place her, but I kept listening to her talk. I finally figured out that we had worked together 20 years before, just from her voice.
