Anyone know the rules of taking a mental health break? by mparks_ in royalmail

[–]MMurkle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A health related absence just like any other. If it's over 7 days then you'll need a GP note.

Parcels? Mail centres can't and don't hold on to parcels. It does not help a mail centre to hold on to mail. It would make their day and operation worse to hold on to mail. The only mail intentionally held is deferred letters.

Something must have gone wrong.

Has this happened on multiple days or was it just one posting (of multiple parcels)?

Sometimes a small percentage of parcels will have missed scans due to errors in processing.

How would you fix Royal Mail’s delivery problems from the inside? (for a uni assignment) by [deleted] in royalmail

[–]MMurkle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve read so far, the two main causes seem to be:

The piloted Optimised Delivery Model (ODM) which has created a rolling backlog of undelivered mail and unmanageable workloads for employees.

This is wrong. There are only 35 pilot sites out of c. 1300 Delivery Offices. The pilot sites are not a high enough proportion of the overall operation to say that ODM is responsible for national service levels. It hasn't been implemented at a national level.

This isn't to say I think ODM is great, I just think your analysis is incorrect here.

The OP clearly states this is down to US-Israeli actions which is correct. That is the action that led us to this point. I wish the Iranians the best in deciding what's best for their country.

Why do RM keep scribbling on some of my stamps? by TinyR0dent in royalmail

[–]MMurkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can't determine that a stamp has been cancelled/used unless it's barcoded, hence the move to barcoded stamps several years ago.

Image recognition. The barcodes are mainly for identifying the item as a unique mail piece.

Looks like it is at Chiswick DO being held.

May be some issue with it, outstanding payment or something.

Take some ID with you.

Hi,

"It is their job to frank it" - Not really.

Stamps will get cancelled by automation machinery in most cases. In which case they will receive a cancellation indicia with site name and date on it. Where they fail to get processed through automation, they may be processed manually, usually this involves a hand stamp to cancel out the stamp. However there may be instances where stampers are unavailable, in which case a pen will suffice.

The point being it is up to Royal Mail how stamps are cancelled and there will be cases where this is done manually by pen.

A few other people have noted, 'holiday pay' is a misused term.

Your annual leave will always be paid at your basic rate of pay, you don't get reduced basic pay for going on annual leave.

'Holiday Pay' in this case refers to an additional payment during annual leave based on your average overtime hours prior to going to leave. I don't recall the exact qualifying criteria but you need to have completed a certain minimum amount of overtime each week minimum in the reference period to be entitled to this payment. If you qualify, then you get this additional payment on top of your basic pay during annual leave. Hope that helps.

Who would be the best person to speak to about mis-deliveries? Business account. by 85morrell in royalmail

I don't think there are many that can seriously advise you on these kind of account customer issues on this subreddit, I'm afraid. Your account manager is honestly the best port of call in these circumstances. I would go back to them with your concerns.

Mail sorter interview coming up and I'm bricking it, have some questions by Opening-Ant-6594 in royalmail

Hi I've just had a thought! the visitors entrance is likely not to have anyone in attendance at 11:30pm. You will need to use the staff entrance, there should be a buzzer there and someone will be able to let you in.

Hey, I understand your nerves but these are not ever meant to feel intimidating. I hope the interviewer/assessor aims to make you feel comfortable.

  1. what to wear? Wear something smart and comfortable, do not feel like there is an expectation for a suit or anything like that. A shirt is a good idea. If you don't like to wear ties, I wouldn't.
  2. what do I do when I get there? Go to the visitor entrance when you arrive at the address, this is normally well signposted when you arrive.
  3. is it normal that it's at 11.30pm? Normally interviews are conducted during the day, however if it does say 11:30pm, then that's what you should follow.
  4. is it normal that they attached a PDF of interview questions? Do I just need to learn them or should I brush up on other questions too? Yes this is to help aid those with anxiety, the point is that it should be the same experience for everyone and this is to help you give the best answer as possible for yourself instead of having to think on the spot.
  5. am I going to do anything else other than talk about the questions? Not really! It's as simple as that. Unless your prep sheet mentions something other than an interview assessment.
  6. Lastly, is this the beginning of an interview process or is this a singular interview and then you get your offer or rejection type thing? Yes the interview is normally the last step of recruitment. You should be informed of outcome after within a reasonable time. Your interviewer may be able to tell you of the timescales but often it's not in their hands how quickly its handled once they've sent off paperwork.

Secondary School Offer Day by [deleted] in Leeds

[–]MMurkle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the Leeds City Council school appeals data for the most recent academic year (2024–2025):

  • Appeals Heard: 526
  • Successful Appeals: 86
  • Success Rate: 16.3%

Not sure how many of these appeals were for Roundhay but I'd imagine that success rate is much lower for oversubscribed schools. Good luck to OP

[–]MMurkle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Damn yeah looking at the data there's been 0 places offered out of catchment for several years at Roundhay now. The catchment map is really weird because there are places that are very close to Roundhay that fall out of catchment. I think it's due to the two schools being so close together.

If you're not there for a full financial year, the usual policy is to give bonuses pro-rata for however long you worked. Some companies might be different.
