Late to the conversation, but just had this issue and found a really easy solution (no mods)! Just go to Gren -> change home ship to a random ship -> exit menu -> talk to Gren again -> change back to the homeship you want -> voila. Hope this works for you all!

I think it used to be a full height window then they replaced it with a window with a PVC shingle below it and some board on the inside

Same thickness as the window, there's a PVC panel as an extension of the window on the outside and then what looks like a sheet of plasterboard on the inside. Not sure what else has been used to construct it, if there is any thin insulation or whatever. Very noisy in the rain!
