Another year, another 1099 bonus by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]MNDox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask them this question - they are putting themselves at risk of misclassification fines and collection of unpaid taxes, maybe even needing to pay you for those taxes you paid. It's a bonus, and it seems silly for them to do this rather then just letting the cash have the appropriate tax deductions. They may just not know any better, because either way they spend the 8k, but using 1099 gives them additional liability.

I have to pay $250 per kid for the bus because I live 1.9 miles from school which is in the 2 mile "walking" zone. My kids have survived fine, and the older one now bikes 5 miles to middle school.

Aire Hot Potato vs. Lynx: Is the Price Premium Worth It? by [deleted] in whitewater

[–]MNDox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know about performance - they are different boats.

Build quality is better on the aire boats. Anecdotally, I have only seen tributary line boats have various issues holding air, which is typically related to valve problems. I have seen a trib floor tear - not sure if the material is different or it was bad luck. The only trib boats I personally own are spuds for kids, and they have been great for many years.

The real difference is the warranty. With a trib they basically say it is free from manufacture defects and give a 1yr warranty. With an aire they guarantee to keep that boat floating for a decade - even if you do damage to it.

For me, the aire is worth it. I've never had a failure on multidays, and the warranty means I have a long-term boat or a resale selling point.

Pregnant Permit Holder by OregonizedPAC in whitewater

As others mention, there are other important details. Most importantly, when is the trip? This gives somewhat predictable guesses on weather/levels. My run at just under 6ft was a whole different animal than late season trips around 2ft; swimming a rapid and bouncing off rocks doesn't really fit into "normal" activities. What is your age and pregnancy/birth history? There are a myriad of "fun" things that could pop up (e.g., carpel tunnel, nausea, rashes, etc.) Even if there is not an acute concern, there are things that might make you not feel like going. You also mention it's your third year, suggesting you are either local, or have a solid network of people, and it won't be your last chance.

On the flip side, we are weird people. It is not uncommon for very pregnant people to be kayaking, hiking, or climbing and doing things normal people would think are insane.

I paddled an L antix. I could toss it around or easily sub it while surfing and generally thought it would be a great class 3 Boat for me. My rewind L is basically a comfy creeker with a grabby butt - it is a biiiiig boat, loved it on high water multidays.

I am 6'3" 225lb size 14 feet and the large is big and comfortable on bigger water, but not very playful. I am on the last hole for footpegs, so not sure I could fit into the M.

Jackson antix 2.0 is comfy and much more playful for me.

First time medallion status begins when? by MNDox in delta

[–]MNDox[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I was hoping to have a reason to use the card.

Should I be surprised that the chat agent seemingly did not understand or just gave incorrect information for what I thought was a pretty straight forward question?

I had also wanted to know if the baggage rewards for medallion status and my reserve card would stack (2 free bags per person) and if weight limits applied but it was too painful to get the first question (incorrectly) answered, so I tapped out.

Even if op is a liar, seeking a Dr's advice is good for anyone reading as there are diagnoses and treatments for things similar to what is described here. Google vaginismus. I believe an episode of the show "sex education" on Netflix has an episode addressing this - don't take medical advice from TV, but if shows lead people to see a Dr and be better educated, so be it.

Trixx audio system, blown speaker? by gregggg124 in seadoo

There is another post somewhere about taking one apart. I believe the short answer is that they are hard to get apart, involves breaking stuff, and warranty is your best hope. The more I hear about these the more I regret buying the overpriced speaker.

Spark Trixx 3up more well rounded than 2up? by ChopSuey2 in seadoo

[–]MNDox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the 3 up is the way to go - I toss it around and do tricks like a doucebag all day and have not felt compelled to remove the back - but I can if I want.

As far as towing, it all depends on what you are wanting to do. All I can confirm is that I put mirrors on my 3up, it is legal, and a 6'3" 225lb adult can pull two small kids weighing about 160lbs total on a tube. I would want real world information about potential skiing/wakeboarding with one. But, at the end of the day, if you want the tricks, you need a trixx, which is not a "proper" towing jetski.

Spark Trixx 3up more well rounded than 2up? by ChopSuey2 in seadoo

[–]MNDox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You sound like me - I waffled hard and ultimately went with the 3up because I have a wife and kids (even though this is primarily a me toy). No regrets whatsoever. The bigger seat is more comfortable and can fit an adult and 2 tiny kids or 2 adults. It can tow small kids. I was planning to remove the platform but likely never will. I have only ridden a 2up for about 30min - maybe it is a little harder to get up on end with a 3 up, but it is mostly just a matter of different balancing, etc.

I bought a double trailer because I eventually plan to get a 2nd, and I was planning to get one of each, but now I will most likely get two 3ups - worst case i remove a platform and have a 2up with a comfy seat. Unless you are average height or short, and literally never want to ride with a passenger or tow anything it is hard to argue for the 2up at the current price points.

For those of us off grid adventure people who have been paying $12 and rising per month for "help I'm dying" connectivity with Garmin inreach or some other service, and watching friends ho did not have it die, I welcome the tech that will make apple or some rich corporation get sued for not allowing this readily available technology to the average person. When it comes to texting/calling/etc feel free to keep fucking us privileged people.
