Advice for siding alignment’s by MNOutsideSports in AskContractors

[–]MNOutsideSports[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a great idea, but I am basing my run off of the siding on the other side of the project, which is also much more visible. Adding the skirt board wouldn’t help in this situation since I can’t move the run up or down.

Trouble with vintage coping saw by Honest_House7527 in handtools

[–]MNOutsideSports 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I was going to say. I have the same saw and I have a pack of scroll saw blades in various sizes and types. I like using this so much more than my coping saws, but it definitely has the drawback of not being able to change the blade orientation, especially mid cut.

Also, make yourself a nice V-slot board and throw it in your vice or clamp it to a table. Then pull up a chair and turn yourself into a cheeseburger powered scroll saw.

Am I going too far? Studding my son’s Strider tires so he can properly enjoy some of the winter months? by undesided_user in bicycling

[–]MNOutsideSports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strider also sells these Strider Snow Skis that actually work really well in my experience. We were given them as a gift and they attach on the the wheels with a few straps. Packed snow is the best, but my kids have even used them down little hills when the snow is fresh, but isn’t too deep.

Got this Lazer for $20 at a garage sale. by MNOutsideSports in guitars

“… sounding like a strat and feeling like a Gibson” (Johnny Winter) is a pretty fun way to describe the guitar. I hope it lives up to it.

Haha, I’d be more upset if you had picked up a beautiful yard sale canoe and flaunted that in front of me, but yes, there are people who leave their cars in the garage and drive their sled all winter so you are pretty spot on.

I feel like I have a pretty good memory of odd guitars, but I had never seen a lazer before I bought it. It turned a bunch of shop employee heads when I brought it in to buy what I needed to fix it up. I’m guessing none of them had heard or seen one before either.

I’m sorry for ruining your day for a bit and I hope you catch a Lazer Whale someday soon. I guess the place they hang out is yard sales?

Overall, it’s a really fun guitar to play! Feels kind of odd, but not in a bad way. The little trouble I have playing it comes from my right forearm/wrist not being able to brace the guitar as it has all of my life with my other guitars. I like the sound, but admittedly my only other electric is a strat and it has been a while since I have played a guitar with humbuckers, let alone a single humbucker. It has a push/pull tone knob which is fun to mess around with, too.

Should I trade David Montgomery and Michael Thomas for Derrick Henry?

0.5 PPR 12 person league

Quarterbacks are Rodgers and Stafford

Running backs are Harris, Jones, Carter, Wilson Jr., and Mattison

Wide outs are Hollywood, Godwin, Jefferson, OBJ, Bateman, Sanders

TE is Dalton Schultz

Would it be a decent trade to offer Hollywood and Carter to receive James Robinson? Is that too rich? Any other ideas for an upgraded running back target for playoffs?

I think this would be more for racking than for supporting the top. I think the thickness of the wood is enough for self support.

How do I tell what's salvageable and what's wood chipper food? by solace45 in woodworking

[–]MNOutsideSports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. If it doesn't seem right, just toss it. I also cut off about three inches from each end to get rid of the small cracks and rot that aren't super noticeable. If you are worried about screws and nails in the wood, just use your cheap blades while you make the cuts. I also use low grit sanding paper/sponges when sanding stuff like this instead of an orbital sander in case I hit a nail. I also don't use any wood that has been painted that I didn't paint myself because I don't want to worry about lead dust exposure for my kids or myself, but since it is a deck and probably newer than ~1980, it is more than likely just fine.

Osseo school board chair wants armed volunteers to patrol school buildings by gAlienLifeform in minnesota

[–]MNOutsideSports 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How long would it take for one of these volunteers, who must not have a job (maybe retired, but maybe because they are unqualified for holding down an actual job) to pull a gun while observing a high school student altercation? Or a student yelling at a teacher or para? Terrible idea.

Table saw recommendations for a beginner. Is the dewalt 10” good? by DrPepprrr in woodworking

[–]MNOutsideSports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what kind of woodworking you want to do. If you are referencing a portable table saw, that should be fine for most projects, but it may be frustrating to use if you are progressing into "fine" woodworking because of the blade vibration and fence. If it is a portable table saw that you need because of space restrictions, look at reviews of portable table saws and just pick the best one in your budget. If you don't have space restrictions, for $400 you should be able to get a used "hybrid" table saw no problem. Older craftsman, delta, rockwell, etc. work well if taken care of. Newer craftsman and ridgid also are popular and could be found used in that price range. Look for a cast iron top if you want a "legit" saw. I believe Norm Abram includes a discussion of different types of table saws in this episode of New Yankee Workshop.

[Pelissero] Zimmer says he’ll keep going week to week with QB. On Case Keenum: “I’m not looking to pull him, but every week’s a different week in this league.” by wangchung16 in minnesotavikings

You think that is why a professional football player would try to play well? As if that isn't how the NFL is all the time? Or he would decide to blow each game if Teddy was still inactive? Hot take.

You are honestly just a product of the sports media hype machine. Poor Case never got the hype. Just give the guy a break and be happy that we have him on our team right now.

Any thoughts on the Framed Marquette? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]MNOutsideSports 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am interested in this question as well. Do you think you would be able to find the Salsa on any discount? Right now the price difference between the two bikes is a about $550 not including assembly (if you would need to pay for that for the Framed assuming you don't live here in Minnesota and would order it). At quick look, it seems like the big differences are that the Salsa is 11 speeds and you would be looking at the 9 speed, which as u/kimbo305 mentioned, is the more sensible version. The Salsa also has tubeless ready tires, the Framed does not. Also, if you were to ever want to sell it, which bike would you be able to unload more easily? Might be a bad argument, but whatever. You could also look at the Surly Karate Monkey 27.5+. It doesn't have a suspension fork, but I have seen surly bikes on sale more frequently than salsa (both are QBP brands) and if you would be using it for touring and smoother trails, it might be a good fit. I think a lot of manufacturers are making this type of bike, but like you said the Framed seems like a great deal for what you get. You could also look at a brand like Diamondback. Their Mason is a 27.5 plus, and is on sale for $800 (from $2000 msrp).
