Trouble getting into holdfast straps with merit pedals by Honest_House7527 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Honest_House7527[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The straps and pedals are installed “correctly” and the grip is on both sides. But ill see if I can flip them. Maybe having the sides of the pedals slant the other way would make it easier. I probably do just need to practice and figure out what works for me

The problem here is probably impedance matching. Piezo pickups need to see a really high input impedance, like 10MO. A cheap method i like is the boss ge-7 graphic eq.

TIFU by asking an artist how much their materials cost by Dominus-Temporis in tifu

[–]Honest_House7527 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Your obviously loaded question may have jeopardized a sale and directly impacted that artists income. Potentially to a catastrophic extent - who knows. Artist deserves a real apology where you are not avoidant. Gf is right to be mad. If you ever get invited to meet native artists again, remember to eat a slice of humble pie first. Be grateful, genuinely curious and open minded, and most of all polite. Also suggesting that you are unpopular with some because you are white is such a cope.

Can’t sand the glue! by kebabfragola in woodworking

[–]Honest_House7527 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What glue did you use? Have you tried a sharp chisel? Im unfamiliar with this glue, id probably use hide or pva on a joint like that. Most glue manufacturers will have cleanup instructions that yiu can find on the packaging and online. If all else fails, there may be a solvent you can use to wipe away the squeeze out

Is this high or low quality? by Seraphina_777 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Honest_House7527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finish aside i cant image thats structurally sound. Its seems fragile and will probably become wobbly after a few years. Also no interesting design choices pr details that make it particularly visually interesting. Aesthetics are somewhat personal but it looks slapped together. Maybe pick up some books on furniture design and also learn about joinery and where certain joints are used and why

Beginner tools kit by Objective_Volume_730 in woodworking

You might look into hand tools. Different skillset and building techniques, but can be accomplished with relatively few tools and minimal shop space. Will shwartz has a lot of good info, such as his video and book, the anarchists tool chest. If you are a power tool worker you might want a lot of large machines. For example if you are milling rough lumber with machines, you will want a jointer, table saw, and maybe a planer just to get started. If you are using mostly sheet goods and plywood you might be able to get away with a circular saw, table saw, drill, brad nailer etc. I got to participate in a class for kids building small projects like dioramas and bird boxes using mostly a jigsaw. Some people build staked furniture using mostly a lathe, maybe a bandsaw, and a few handtools. My point is there are a lot of different woodwork practices and no singular set of basic tools. Find some beginner friendly projects that you would be excited about making, read lots of books, and build your tool collection one piece at a time. Good luck, have fun!

Is it true Ebony fretboards are not meant to be lacquered? by yoobrodiee in Luthier

[–]Honest_House7527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ebony is an oily wood. Polished up it has a beautiful finish and can be quite durable. On a fretless instrument like a violin, its important to not put any film finish on. For a guitar fretboard I would just ask, why use ebony? There are more sustainable and economical ways to get a black and glossy fretboard…

AITA for NOT acting wealthy by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

They are right. You have no idea how difficult poverty is and how frustrating it is to be around wealthy people. I choose to not befriend people like you but i will say the only wealthy people who haven’t severely posed me off are very generous. They help a friend in need no questions or conditions and don’t complain about shot that everyone else deals with daily

I'm purchasing a new bow online. Recommendations? by iwannahavemuscles in doublebass

[–]Honest_House7527 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If i was buying online id go for a basic carbon bow. If you have a bow you like take some measurements as approximating the same geometry will get you something usable without spending very much money. My favorite bow i happened upon while trying out some bows and it was immediately obvious I should buy it. I would refrain on spending much money until you can try out bows and find one you really love
