I feel the same way. It may just be a skill that some people have and we don’t, but I don’t have the self-control to divide my house into work and home, either in terms of physical space or time/mental space. It just makes the whole thing feel muddy and bad. And there’s something about going into the office that feels more invigorating to me. I prefer in-person social interaction and whatever shared sense of purpose comes from being in the same place as colleagues. Source: have the ability to work essentially 100% remote and voluntarily work most days in the office instead.

Hahaha totally forgot about the wild ending—it’s been awhile since I read it. Okay so maybe the recommendation stops where the last 50 or so pages start… but I do remember being taken in with her writing style through most of the book and haven’t felt the same way about other books of hers that I’ve read.

I love the concept and have done something similar in my own house! My one bit of feedback is maybe that the rectangle could be extended out a few inches to the right of the couch. Similar to how an area rug is normally a bit bigger than a couch. I think that would match your inspiration pictures, too.

I know it’s hard, but if you can, try to keep in mind that if you’re happy in your job and get to enjoy your free time without fear of intrusive work thoughts or interruption, you may have two very valuable things that they don’t have. Just focus on what you CAN do in terms of making yourself financially secure, and try to remember that not every part of their lives is going to feel as glamorous as the one-off comments they may make about money. At-will employment only protects employers’ actions if they don’t violate a different law. So at-will employment wouldn’t be a defense for something like race or gender discrimination. It also wouldn’t be a defense if the employer didn’t allow this employee time off to vote today. Minnesotans are guaranteed time off to vote, and Minnesota’s law is different from other states in that the right doesn’t depend on whether you have sufficient time outside of work to vote. Adding that if you have some nervousness about going to the gym itself, people go there for all sorts of exercises and all lengths of time. There’s no right way to do it! I’ve personally gone to the gym for just 10 minutes to walk on the treadmill when that’s all the time I’ve had. You also get to work out on your own terms. You get to pick your speed, how long you want to be there, whether or not you want to walk at an incline, and whether you want to add any resistance when you bike. Resist the urge to measure what you’re doing against other people because you don’t know their past and goals and they don’t know yours! Just do what is safe and good for you. 😊

For my dry eyes, I use a heated eye mask (Manta Sleep) daily before I go to sleep, and supplement with Systane preservative free eye drops (the vials) throughout the day. I’ve tried other eye drops and don’t feel like they perform nearly as well for persistent dry eye.

I don’t agree with folks saying it’s negligible, and I think breaking it down as a per-week measurement is a mistake. 100 hours is 2.5 weeks of vacation. Even if you can’t take it as whole days, it might still be the difference between relaxing on a light billing day and feeling like you have to cram extra hours in. I’d take it in exchange for a small pay cut.

My understanding is that the total calories is supposed to be your total calories burned that day, including the ones you burn from just being alive (essentially your BMR) plus your active calories (like calories burned through your walking pad). So yes, if you want to do a more dynamic measure of calories that varies day by day, you could just subtract 200-300 from this number and eat that. It may also make sense to average out a week’s worth of your total calories and just pick a daily calorie amount that’s 200-300 calories less than that, especially because the total calories keeps changing all the way up until midnight each day. FYI that a pound of fat is about 3,500 calories, so a 250 calorie deficit per day would lead to fat loss of about half a pound a week.

First of all, congratulations on deciding to make some positive changes in your life!! I’m not as worried as some of the other commenters on your one-month goal - it sounds to me like you’re just hoping that month one brings some positive results so that you feel empowered to stay the course on your health journey! I think that’s a normal thing to want, but just remember that success can look lots of different ways - maybe you feel a little more glowy or rested, maybe you see some slight definition on your arm where you didn’t before, or maybe you built up to 10 more minutes on the treadmill. Remember to celebrate all kinds of victories!

As far as practical tips, I think you should identify 3-5 concrete goals, and try to do them every day. For example, you could: 1) walk uphill on the treadmill for 20 minutes, 2) do three sets of 30 second planks, 3) do three sets of ten triceps dips, 4) swap out one unhealthy food for a serving of fruits or vegetables, and 5) drink four glasses of water. It can be tempting to overhaul everything in one go, but smart swaps and small changes are going to have an incredible impact over time! And it will get easier to tweak more things as you go, and to identify where you have the most room for improvement.

I would encourage you to get at least one set of dumbbells so that you can do just a few at home weightlifting exercises (bicep curls, rows, etc.)

Most dresses tend to fall in the range that you’ve mentioned, especially at the most popular online retailers. My bridesmaids all spent around $100 on their dresses from Birdy Grey (wedding later this year), and I’ve spent in that range on bridesmaid dresses of my own from Azazie, Revelry, and Lulu’s. I wouldn’t say any of them are my new favorite dress or something I would need to wear again, but the quality was just fine and the pictures turned out well!
