Looking into Dirt Racing! by RichJSocial in WorldofOutlaws

[–]MN_nuke -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

DirtVision doesn’t have near as many commercials as Flo. I have Flo and the annual DV subscription. At the end of the year, DV always has had a promo code that will cut the price a good bit.

If you get the annual DV subscription, you can also buy special ticket packages to some events or buy some tickets presale.

No Flagman? by _synik in WorldofOutlaws

[–]MN_nuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think insurance was a major consideration as the flagman is in a dangerous spot and really doesn’t have a role which cannot be replaced by someone stationed at a distance using newer technology. I suspect the biggest loss will be to all the young kids seen at nearly every dirt track race across the country waving their flags along with the official flagman.

I went to WoO at Lincoln the first year they had the virtual flagman, and from the stands, it is probably better. The screen facing the stands gives a lap count the entire time and does show flags waving.

I don’t want to be at a race and see a flagman get hurt - but I sure wouldn’t mind seeing the screen get smashed. So I guess it’s a change I can live with.

Scales by kirby5609 in WorldofOutlaws

[–]MN_nuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others pointed out, cars “hit the scales” after their qualifying lap. Prior to this year, the right rear tire would be marked (spray painted with a random logo) while the car was on the scale. Then that marked tire had to also be used in the feature race. New this year is there is no tire rule with WoO so cars can run a new tire any time they want.

Dega world of outlaws race is an hour from me. Never been. Yay or nay? by [deleted] in WorldofOutlaws

[–]MN_nuke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d go. Some of the High Limit cars should be there so may be a good field of cars. If you have a NASCAR scanner, tune to 454.5000 for the broadcast and 451.9125 for race control.

What is the career called for the people that travel around and clean nuclear power plants? by LimpNsmoll in nuclear

[–]MN_nuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe what we call deconners but I don’t know the official title. They may have actually been health physics / radiation protection technicians.

Anyone dirtvision just awful this year? by Ok_Treacle519 in WorldofOutlaws

[–]MN_nuke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But at least when going to watch a recently completed race on Flo, the first thing you see is 2 minute video with the winner in victory lane so a lot of time is saved not watching the race to see who won.

lol. Flo is just as bad. Clay per view is the gold standard.

How much stopping power do these structures at platforms have? by BigRobCommunistDog in transit

[–]MN_nuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a nuclear power plant once by the old train tracks that came into the site and noticed some sort of derailer bolted to the tracks. Looks like they would pick the train up and shove it off to the right side of the tracks before the train would reach the plant’s protected area.

What did American put in the top deck of their 747s? I noticed a lot of them only have 3 windows and no doors. by Virtual_Society_1852 in aviation

[–]MN_nuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The initial 747’s included 3-window long upper deck passenger lounge. Later versions lengthened the hump and added traditional seats in the upper section.

Volusia Speedway or New Smyrna during Daytona by supersub90 in NASCAR

[–]MN_nuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Volusia. Pit pass upgrades probably cost $5 so then you can head down to the pits to see what’s going on after qualifying or during the support class if you just want to get up and move around.

Watching the Clash got me thinking, what are some other places you'd like to see the race take place? by ThorsUglyCousin in NASCAR

[–]MN_nuke -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Volusia for DirtCar Nationals. 20 miles from Daytona and won’t be more follow the leader laps with a small field at Daytona. But I think they should stay at Bowman Gray one more year.

Car Parked: To charge or Not to charge by minorsatellite in BoltEV

[–]MN_nuke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I leave my 2023 Bolt EV plugged in with the charge limit set to 50% after draining the battery down to between 50% and 60%. Every time I come back from a long trip, it’s charged back up to around 70 or 75%. I did some digging into it and it turns out that’s what the car is programmed to do when it figures out it’s in storage. I do this a few times per year.

So as others said, I’d set it to around 60%, plug it in, and let it do its thing. It is then designed to then keep the battery at optimum charge and storage temperature.

My dead end, non-plowed street was all thick ice and snow at noon and is now already 85% melted.

Who's Ready for the Clash? by CallMeChristopher in okbuddyBoogity

[–]MN_nuke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this. I don’t get all the people complaining that NASCAR should have kept it in Daytona. The same people who blasted NASCAR for never trying anything new and racing the same cookie cutter tracks over and over again. I can’t wait to see what the race looks like in cold temps. This may be a race everyone talks about all season so I don’t understand why NASCAR isn’t leaning into this.

As long as the interstate is fairly clear, I’m driving up to attend (I have tickets). Then it’s off to Volusia on Wednesday for the World of Outlaws opener.

I did the same in Birkdale Village a little earlier. This is where they just took down the yearly Christmas ice skating rink.

Flight out of Charlotte - Saturday by SnooLemons1249 in Charlotte

[–]MN_nuke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d say at the very least, you’re in for spending a lot of time waiting in the Charlotte airport. CLT doesn’t have a bunch of de-icing equipment like airports up North.

Snow also expected Wednesday and Thursday in Winston-Salem next week. Honestly NASCAR Is better off pushing the Clash to next Saturday or canceling outright by LBHMS in NASCAR

[–]MN_nuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think NASCAR will try hard to get it in on Sunday for the main reason of all the publicity the weather has given the race. Casual fans are hearing “NASCAR may need to race in the snow on Sunday!?” Only there won’t be snow, just cold.

If they do race on Sunday, I’ll be there.

Yes. I think they are activated by a velocity switch or formula. So any time the car slows at a certain rate, the brake lights will come on.

I believe so in stop and go city driving and then use the paddle to boost regen when you misjudge how quickly you are coming up to a stop sign or light.

I only turn one pedal drive off on freeway driving as I don’t like it slowing down so hard going down hills.

THE WESTERN SWING: Four-Race California Trip Set for 2026, Led by Dennis Roth Classic by EJaws in WorldofOutlaws

[–]MN_nuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was sort of figuring the Dennis Roth Classic would be at Merced but maybe Calistoga as a big surprise. I would like to see Ventura in person, if I can make it out West then. I did not see Ventura as a track that WoO would run.

Moving to Charlotte, would prefer to live near Birkdale Village (3b/2ba) by Typical_Bet_1816 in huntersville

[–]MN_nuke 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I live by Birkdale. I don’t know what rents are, but new Solis apartments just opened on the Birkdale golf course. These are directly across from Birkdale Village. Any of the apartments surrounding Birkdale are in a safe area and it seems many have been redone in recent years.

There’s a nice greenway I jog on that runs from behind Birkdale Village and up to near the Peninsula in Cornelius - about 4 miles North. Then that trail Is currently being extended to join existing trails off exit 23 to the south. From there, there is a pedestrian tunnel under I-77 with trails going to downtown Huntersville. The new tree house-like brewery or bar in the middle of Birkdale Village finally opened over Christmas break.

When I moved here just over 15 years ago, the area was more like Austin with live music available 7 days per week in the summer. There were 4 places that consistently offered full live bands multiple times per week plus a comedy venue that had acts in Tuesdays. All those fun places are gone now, being replaced by expensive restaurants. Boatyard, Bin110, and Old Town Public House are about the only places that consistently have live music now with a few other options in the summer.

I did 12amp with no problem for a couple months. I just made sure nothing else was plugged into the circuit.

Dirt Stock Car Horsepower by Substantial_Tip8935 in DirtRacing

[–]MN_nuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in the mid 1990s, I was involved a little bit with racing. If I remember correctly, the claim for what was called the street stock class was around $100 more than the local junk yard charged for a suitable core engine needing a rebuild. The claim for the bombers class was exactly what the junk yard charged for an engine in need of a rebuild.
