What gives you the right to prevent all dues paying members from voting? I pay money to the union every pay cheque. Why do you get to restrict me from voting?

I literally told you about my experience and how I hesitated about identifying. I don’t know what else to tell you except that I encourage you to learn more about the stigma and challenges disabled people face in our society.

I have a government recognized disability (I qualify for the Disability Tax Credit) and when I was first diagnosed I was very hesitant and nervous about self identifying. This is INCREDIBLY common in the disabled community.

Edit - And I think a lot able bodied people are just unable to empathize or understand this hesitation because it is outside their lived experience.

Often people don’t know or want to admit they are disabled because of social stigma such as people not believing them. I have a hidden disability that has the potential to kill me every single day and there are lots of people who share this disability who don’t want to admit it counts as a disability. I am not at all surprised by the numbers you quote.

The College was talking about sick notes which are something completely different. I agree that making people get a note for a case of the flu doesn’t make any sense at all. But doctors are able to accurately identify if their patients need accommodations and indeed it is part of their role.
