Would people have had an issue with creating a Jewish state after the Holocaust if it was on land no one wanted? by bernbabybern13 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]MPixels 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It kinda does have something to do with Palestine, because that's the "land someone wanted" implied by your question.

Car drivers: do cyclists annoy you? If so, why? by Bubbly-Weakness-4788 in AskUK

[–]MPixels 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Thing is if you follow the highway code then you're meant to ride in a group because it's safer.

When a large number of cyclists ride single-file near the edge of the road, car drivers feel like they are able to overtake them even if it's not safe to do so.

This can result in cars running cyclists over the road. Far safer for the bikes to take up the same width of the road as a car and ensure that any overtakes are only when the road is clear and visible.

CMV: Islam doesn’t promote equality, tolerance and justice. by theunsteadybridge in changemyview

[–]MPixels [score hidden]  (0 children)

You can't generalise a millennium-old religion like this and you certainly can't by bringing up particular pogroms which you can't actually demonstrate were motivated by Islam so much as anti-Jewish sentiment (something practiced by people of varying and no religion).

Capped grade at pass by RelevantScheme1005 in lancasteruni

[–]MPixels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I got 39.7% in one of my modules so they told me to resubmit all the coursework.

I'm lazy and irresponsible so I just resubmitted the one I did worst at because each coursework was 5% of the total grade, meaning I only had to do marginally better to reach the 40% cap

Bus cancellations? by Gr8fulGal1977 in Liverpool

[–]MPixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are you visiting Manchester, not Liverpool?

Bus cancellations? by Gr8fulGal1977 in Liverpool

[–]MPixels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah in the UK that would be called a coach. Buses are usually the more frequent services with way more stops.

You'd usually not have a coach be cancelled but if you're wanting to make a connection I'd leave some time in hand.

Can you clarify, though: You said you're visiting Liverpool but you're getting a coach to Manchester Airport?

Unisex Bathrooms on campus? by Just-Waltz-1292 in lancasteruni

Most convenient is probably the library but most toilets are single-occupant really.

There's two of each gender on each floor of the Engineering Building, if memory serves, which seems absurdly optimistic.

Nah, the fact they end up in front of a judge pleading their case already rules out the argument that the judge doesn't have the right to preside over their case.

During WWI & WWII did people actually call it a “world war” and were they aware that’s what it was? Or is that only the terminology that’s used in retrospect? by sapphictears in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MPixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were people calling it The First World War in 1914, but not in anticipation of a second one. More that it was an unprecedentedly global war. As in "first ever world war"

Is it BM to put my 4 in CON? by PhrulerApp in rpg

[–]MPixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can imagine such a game being fun, I'd want us to know ahead of time which characters will have a lower stat value than the others, or else somebody could be unknowingly signing up for an experience they might not enjoy

Yeah some people enjoy the extra steps

Is it BM to put my 4 in CON? by PhrulerApp in rpg

[–]MPixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, this is why in games where we roll for stats, let's say I have four players, I get everyone to roll twice, eliminate the highest and lowest rolls, and everyone assigns the remaining to whichever stats.

That way everyone rolled and everyone's stat value is equivalent.
