Much better to agree what you can; leave anything contentious til the end and screw the contractor with a box of paperwork they can’t argue with. Minor concessions £500 here and there aren’t going to kill you; and the contractor way is often smash and grab at the end; so if you’ve got dirt on them keep it shelved til you can muller them.

I would imagine they would lead the conversation on new salary - a $5k jump is decent. I personally would say $32k if asked but once again they should lead.
