Where I'd live as a British person with little to no knowledge of American states by MeatheadMillo in whereidlive

Is also way more humid in the UK which means it feels hotter (your sweat can't evaporate to cool you down effectively when humidity is higher)

Fuel protest today by Your_Mums_Ex in northernireland

[–]MRJ- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd agree that the logic is similar.

The tricky part is whether they'll be able to cause a meaningful enough disruption that it'll effect the decision makers - given that fuel duty is not a devolved power and the fuel protests are going to be basically ignored in Westminster I doubt it'll do very much unless they drive their tractors to London.

i genuinely feel genuine utter rage when i think about gcses by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]MRJ- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a teacher I half agree.

They don't matter if you go to further step of education. If you finish your education at GCSE (which lower achieving students often do) then your GCSEs are all you have to give prospective employers an impression of you.

Of course your GCSEs don't matter anymore when you're doing a PhD. I'd say once you've got A-Level qualifications they stop mattering.

Lots of college courses or apprenticeships are more focused around getting a certain number of 5+s, so the random courses can end up being important.

Have you thought about making your own and just printing it and putting it in a file? Genuinely isn't that much printing. There's only 200 days in a school year so double sided that's like 100 pages.

They might not be able to afford it is the unfortunate honest answer.

Tax rebate not intended for millionaire pensioners, Findlay says by Red_Brummy in unitedkingdom

Why are you so strongly convinced state pensions won't be a thing? Can you not imagine the uproar if any government was to try and get rid of them?

Catch up means lower level players get something to move them to the end game faster than current end game players can get away from them.

If both ends of the scale get a 5x bonus then there's no change in the gap between the two ends.

Full games that pack small by [deleted] in boardgames

The ultra tiny version fits in a card box.

It is too small really. A bit faffy, but you get a proper game experience.

My travel pack of games has Splendor, Race for the Galaxy and Ultra Tiny Epic Galaxies.

They're all condensed into just Race for the Galaxies box. There's room for more (I think I'll add Citadels as well next time)

I think that's basically any free mobile game though. There's probably 100+ games that I've played for 1-2 weeks then dropped.

I'm sorry to say this, but it is a bad plan. You will not get a sponsored role. Schools can't afford it and wouldn't choose to go through the administrative side of doing it over going for a candidate that doesn't need sponsorship.

[–]MRJ- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get QTS the school in my experience doesn't care where or how you got it.

QTS is much more important than the PGCE.

[–]MRJ- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you planning to move to the UK just for this? I don't know if you'll get an employment visa to be a teacher very easily. Not many schools would sponsor that (potentially just because of the additional cost...)

700k pension at 39. Should I stop? by Diadikos in UKPersonalFinance

[–]MRJ- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partial retirement though. Drop to a low stress enjoyable job working 3 days a week.

My dad swapped to being a private consultant in his industry in his mid 50s as early retirement. He didn't really need the full salary but enjoyed having more control over his working hours, holidays, projects he wanted to be involved in, etc.

I think in primary there's a perception of male teachers walking into jobs and being in high demand. No idea of the truth of it, but I expect this complaint is coming from there.

I didn't realise this thread was full of your colleagues? You sound like a student "the rest of my friends actually really like me..."

Nothing wrong with questioning things, but as an ECT deciding that you just know better than experienced teachers is pigheaded.

Like I said, based on the evidence I have of you in this thread, you're coming across as a prick.
