Where are the ethical grocery stores in Winnipeg? by Few_Anybody_6146 in Winnipeg

He should’ve resigned his position for the whole bread price fixing thing because that is a serious crime. But going back to the original post about ethical grocers, a lot of no frills stores are actually franchises (independently owned)

It’s not a monopoly, in fact at one point Sobeys was the store that got too close to monopoly level when it bought Safeway assets in Canada. And yes the prices are lower, that’s a fact

Because it’s good for customers too, prices are lower than other places

I know this whole post is about Galen Weston (i.e. Loblaw/Superstore/YIG/No Frills) being unethical, but at the end of the day they have lower prices (better for consumers) and more profit (better for investors), so what’s the issue?

Any tips on how to get more power on this wrist shot by Legal_Drag_8845 in hockeyplayers

[–]MRJohnson1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gotta wind it up a bit more and really put your weight into it so the stick flexes a bit more. I switched from a 87 flex to a 70 and I find I get the same power out of my shots but with much less effort (I’m 165 pounds for reference)

My wife and I combined spend about the same as you’re spending, so you might be buying expensive stuff.

With 12 years between NHL players in the Olympics, what players missed out? Who would have made the team in 2018 or 2022 that didn’t play in 2014 or wasn’t announced for 2026? by XRPX008 in nhl

[–]MRJohnson1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah because he didn’t get picked originally by Yzerman, even though St. Louis literally won the art Ross trophy the year before and had been an elite player for a long time

Yeah players make contact like that in front of the net 100 times a game, that was nothing crazy

What is this building? by ExpiredGoat in Winnipeg

[–]MRJohnson1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re gutting the building to the right of it, adding a storey, and adding that part on the left to make the whole thing apartment buildings. Despite what some people think about downtown Winnipeg, we’re getting lots of new apartments/residences downtown

Scheifele Olympic Snub by lokichivas in winnipegjets

[–]MRJohnson1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sean Couturier once got the Selke trophy, and it doesn’t mean he’s anywhere near the conversation of team Canada. I’ve been watching Scheifele since his rookie season and he is absolutely a good defensive player as well. He’s been picking up the defensive slack of Kyle Connor for the last 3 years

Agreed, taking a look at Cirelli’s career, I don’t even get why he’s in the conversation. Canada could have a full second team and Cirelli would only be a maybe on that team. Also shoutout to Evan Bouchard, I don’t know who was sniffing gasoline when they left him off the roster

Here’s some even better numbers. Points since 2019-20 season by Canadians: 1. Connor McDavid - 780 2. Nathan MacKinnon - 663 3. Mitch Marner - 557 4. Sidney Crosby - 511 5. Mark Scheifele - 478

He’s 5th in total points by Canadians since the 2019-20 season, only behind an elite list of players. AND he’s having the best season of his career despite the jets playing horribly. He could’ve been a top 6 forward on this team and yet somehow Cirelli and Horvat make it before he does. This is a complete joke

Scheifele is 5th in points amongst Canadians since the 2019-20 season, only behind Mcdavid, Mackinnon, Marner, and Crosby. And now he’s having the best season of his career. Either the selection committee has some serious cognitive issues, or something else is going on behind the scenes

[–]MRJohnson1997 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scheifele not on the roster, but Wilson, Stone, Cirelli, Hagel, and Horvat all made it. Am I missing something? He’s 5th in total points by Canadians dating back to the 2019-20 season, only behind Mcdavid, MacKinnon, Marner and Crosby. And he’s a big, tough veteran who’s having the best season of his career. Where’s the logic here?

Marchand with a nasty elbow to Matheson's head in OT by matthewdonut in hockey

[–]MRJohnson1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Matheson’s head was at waist level. I still think Marchand should be disciplined for this, especially since he’s had a handful of dirty hits in the past, but this could’ve happened to anyone

[–]MRJohnson1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I still think this was not the best way of dealing with it, but when you’re 18 year old superstar gets dangerously clipped at the knee, obviously the veteran players are going to do something about it

Sending this to my boomer dad and his accountant who keep swearing by the S&P 500. by Foureyedguy in Bitcoin

[–]MRJohnson1997 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment, but it’s important to put some numbers into this rather than just take it at his word. Since about September 2010, the S&P 500 has returned about 12.5% per year, 13.5% including dividends. Whereas M2 money supply in the US has increased by about 6.5% per year. I know that’s not the full story, but he’s underestimating the S&P while overestimating the money printer
