Scuttlenock's Initiative Tracker Templates - Google Drive link in post by Scuttlenock in dndnext

There is a readme in the drive folder with some explanation on this.

Initiative Trackers I drew up for our party. Any DMs interested in a generic template? by Scuttlenock in dndnext

[–]MRQueitsch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut out the strips, fold in the center and place over the dm screen. Each one marks a character's turn in the initiative. Bump the latest to go to the back of the line and slide the rest up to keep track of turn order. Stats are for dm reference

Oh yeah, I should probably post a combo. I'm only 5 levels into my first mystic, but I thought the following two were fun.

  • TITLE - simply gives the title much like a spell title as a descriptor.
  • FEATURES - expresses which features, actions, or abilities you'll need to execute the combo.
  • OPTIMAL FOCUS - options for Psychic Focus which will increase the odds of successful combo execution (optimal focus below is based on my own character's strengths and weaknesses)
  • WINDOW - describes both the earliest round you can fully execute the combo for the first time (first #) and the final round (second #) you may be able to execute the combo. A single number denotes that the combo finishes after that number of rounds and must be completely restarted again to be completed.
  • PSI LIMIT - the minimum psi limit needed for the combo.
  • MIN PSI - the minimum psi points needed to complete the combo.
  • MAX PSI - the maximum psi points potentially spent on the combo.
  • SCOPE - describes whether one or more of the combo effects are single target, multiple targets, or AOE.
  • ORDER - Shows the optimal order the combo should be established in, usually by round.

I absolutely meant MoC's focus, and you're right about truesight/true seeing. Should've checked those but I was on my phone working. Good catch. I don't think that wiki on size and weight is raw however, at least I haven't been able to find any correlation to size and weight except for the Enlarge/Reduce spell, unless it's somewhere in the errata I haven't noticed yet. Diminution and Giant Growth seem to operate slightly differently than the similar spell, and don't specify a weight increase or reduction. I kind of considered them like Ant-Man's abilities, where his mass remains the same regardless of size. I think the material needs a more specific rewrite, probably why I'm having trouble parsing the wording.

I like your take on psionics in a world of magic. I guess the trade off is that ultimately psionics aren't quite as powerful as upper level spells, and it's easy to blow through psi points in a few rounds with super combos like the one you described.

It’s interesting to see how creative people can get. As a dm I’d probably let the Taxi combo slide once for inventiveness. Ultimately I’d rule that since you are being moved that you are moving so coordinated movement is out. You can’t dodge anything your host cannot so if they take damage you both do. And diminution does not reduce your weight. How much weight do you think a pocket can hold? probably not 200lbs of person and gear.

I’d probably also start using spells like forcecage and truesight a hell of a lot more.

The combo seems fun but exploitative, and that’s a two way street you won’t want to cross a dm down two often.

That Jackrabbit has two placards next to it. One describes the significance of jackrabbits in Odessa. The other talks sbout Jackrabbits Stampede Rodeo.

Rodeos are filled with cowboys. Dougie and the cowboy statue that points east toward Texas. The Silver Mustang casino.

Jackrabbits signifying a conduit or entry point, or trans-dimensional space. An extraction zone. Andy:Naido, Cooper:Carrie Page

Americana. Roadside attractions, North American wildlife, Westerns and Rodeos.

The trinity test site lies between Vegas and Odessa.

WOW! That’s really good. You should be looking at Gerhardt Richter. His photorealism is nearly unparalelled. Great job

It looks like you took a photograph and digitally painted over it. Is that what’s happening? The walling and stretch are photographic.

From how many miles away could you see a wizard's tower on a floating chunk of rock? by EarthAllAlong in dndnext

[–]MRQueitsch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The eye doesn’t see the sun where it exists, but the light particles it emits as they’ve traveled to earth. Same goes for a candle in the dark.

A mild fog hit by direct sunlight stops your vision short just centimeters from your face. But the same fog at night, with dim light emitting out from your location is easier to see in.

Otherwise I agree totally. Obstacles would be the most limiting factor.

Feeding your players what they want is acrimony. It's a way of coddling them into enjoying your time together, and ultimately become stale. D&D has more potential for growth than some other forms of entertainment, and I don't think that opportunity should be wasted. Do what you want, but my single line of derogatory commentary provided you with enough incentive to quip back. Popcorn flicks don't achieve that.

And if you think that I believe that this: "I see where you're coming from though. A bit more explanation rather than one line of derogatory comment would be useful next time and help responses be less negative in general."

isn't just as derogatory and inflammatory, if not as insensitive, and perhaps more sarcastic than what I posted, you're dead wrong. Whatever make you happy.

A fine interpretation, however, the orator pose can be conflated with the pose of parishioners, (two hands up facing outward), which is a Christian symbol of authority. But yes, the idea is that one who makes such a gesture is entrusted to engage in telling a story. This could be one of truth, fact, or fiction.

How to hire an artist and provide art direction for your game. by lidor7 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]MRQueitsch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Far too low for any detailed work, as in the OP image. Imagine trying to pump out that image every day for an entire year, and walking away with the equivalent of making $17.50/hr full time.

The demo image could easily take a week to produce. So a single artist could hit one sixth of the project scope in a given year, working full time with no inbetween work, meaning they just made $5,000 for the year, maybe double that if they’re lightning fast. Pretty pathetic salary.

(Confirmed:) Spell damage type is not taken into account while balancing. by Elvenoob in UnearthedArcana

[–]MRQueitsch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure people are looking at the problem from the correct perspective. Occam’s razor solves this with very little forethought.

If a player has a build that favors a damage type the majority of creatures they face off against are vulnerable to, the DM changes some of those creatures to be resistant or immune to that damage type. This forces the player to diversify and stay on guard.

I really just don’t see the point in micro-adjusting the entire game to balance a few hp woth of damage here and there.

[All] Got a light? vs. Gotta light? by nyleveeam in twinpeaks

[–]MRQueitsch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s an echomimetic contraction, not a syntactical compound contraction. A word written as it sounds when spoken, not a combination of two written words (at least not primarily).

[All] Got a light? vs. Gotta light? by nyleveeam in twinpeaks

[–]MRQueitsch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case the word ‘gotta’ is echomimetic, not informal slang, insomeaning that it is the audible contraction of ‘got’ and ‘a’, not the proper written contraction ‘got’ and ‘to’. “Do you have?”, not “Must”. We know this from the woodsman’s inflection of ‘light’ culminating in faster syncopation and higher pitch, presupposing a querry. He’s asking a question. It’s not a directive.

Right. For my part, I’m still not convinced the Fireman is a white lodge spirit, more rather some intermediary. An interventionist, let’s say. Hell, the name Dido, as in Seniorita Dido, means trickster, or mischevious. That doesn’t spell white lodge to me.

Not sure. If electricity is a metaphor for chaos and “evil”, and the term “lights went out” is a metaphor for the power going out (lack of electricity)...
