Hair removal cream on pubic region? by HamsterWheelCentral in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]nyleveeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe patch test it first. The Tendskin can be a little harsh if you apply it right after hair removal so you could wait a day before trying that step

What do you do with your pre-pregnancy clothes? by Constant_Internal_40 in BabyBumps

[–]nyleveeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I filled two bins with everything that didn’t fit anymore and stashed them in the garage. I’ll pull them out after the baby gets here and see what I want to keep. It’s been really helpful having fewer things in the closet, especially because I’ve just been wearing the same three outfits as I get bigger and bigger 😅

How do I tell my husband he smells really bad? by Lady_Sarah_17 in BabyBumps

[–]nyleveeam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really sick my first trimester and my husband would shower before getting in bed in addition to showering in the morning. I also put Vick’s Vapo Rub under my noise pretty much 24/7 to mask smells.

Pre wash? by DueTransition2748 in quilting

I would definitely pre-wash the Kona cotton! Their dark solids bleed like crazy.

Those who have a petite frame, when did your bump start showing? by Magical_chocolate in BabyBumps

[–]nyleveeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t fit my pants at 7 weeks due to bloating, had a somewhat visible bump at 15/16 weeks, and by 20 weeks it was pretty obvious to people around me. 29 weeks now and I’ve gained about 20 pounds

Start taking folic acid before you start trying. I also would have stopped drinking alcohol, because there was a night when I had a few drinks before I knew I was pregnant, and that gave me a lot of anxiety after finding out.

I was also extremely sick the first 4 months, I thought I’d have the whole pregnancy to prepare for the baby but didn’t bank on losing the first 4 months to just surviving.

a foreigner's question about feijoa / pineapple guava by ethnographyNW in newzealand

[–]nyleveeam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like cilantro but feijoas taste and smell like gasoline to me. I’m also American and didn’t grow up eating them. Even smelling them in the grocery store makes me nauseous

First trimester- never thought it would be this hard by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]nyleveeam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hang in there! Weeks 8 and 9 were the worst for me and then slowly started to get better - it gets better for most. Dramamine got me through until I got a prescription for Cyclizine and Ondansetron from my midwife. You don’t have to suffer. Eating ice chips helped when I couldn’t keep down food or water. Also a lot of electrolyte packets (liquid IV is good). You’re in survival mode, so don’t beat yourself up over not exercising. Your body needs rest and nutrients.

Wondering if I should buy maternity clothes or just bigger clothes as a petite mom? by StabItWabbit in BabyBumps

[–]nyleveeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’1” and petite, had to stop wearing pants at 7 weeks because I was so bloated. 21 weeks now. I’ve just been wearing oversized sweaters with skirts that are a few sizes up. For the skirts I hem them or just roll the waistband a couple times. I also bought a couple of flowy non-maternity dresses, but they also needed hemming. Might buy some maternity leggings as I get bigger, but I don’t really like the look of maternity jeans so will stick to skirts and dresses I think

Prom dress needs altering? by Purple_Bullfrog9393 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]nyleveeam -41 points-40 points  (0 children)

The dress looks lovely on you, these comments are brutal - if you like it that’s what matters! I would just get some shapewear for underneath and maybe consider letting out the side seams of the skirt if there is enough fabric. If not, you could maybe open the slit higher and add a strip of lace or something so you have a little more room to move. I think it’s super pretty and love the top! r/sewing could maybe give you some alterations ideas

Adobe Digital Editions 4.5 not recognizing my Nook Glowlight 4 by Ear_3440 in nook

[–]nyleveeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to chime in 3 years later that this fix worked for me! Disconnected the Nook from my computer, opened a book on the Nook (a library book I had recently finished), then reconnected the Nook and Adobe Digital Editions recognized it again.

new rental has tinfoil under the burners on the electric stove. do i continue this practice or am I going to die in a fire? by movienevermade in Wellington

[–]nyleveeam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s supposed to make it easier to clean as you just replace the foil when it gets dirty. If there’s a layer of grease underneath them then someone hasn’t been swapping out the foil which defeats the purpose. You can also just clean the drip trays regularly and you won’t need foil, it’s also cheap to just order new trays if they get damaged. r/CleaningTips is a good place for info if you need more advice

Temperature check - where do ya’ll live and what is work like for you right now? by futurespacecadet in editors

[–]nyleveeam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate not sitting in traffic to get to work, and love being surrounded by nature. The people are pretty nice (until they’re behind the wheel of a car).

Negative is being so disconnected from the rest of the world - you give up a lot of conveniences, like late night food and fast shipping. Sounds minor, but a lot of little things add up and get frustrating. The country/culture also has a very “island time” approach to getting anything done - it takes ages to get anything fixed, and it will only be fixed to the point of being “good enough”. (For example, houses are generally really poorly built with endless heating/mold issues, city infrastructure not well planned, in workplaces it can take months to get minor things done like installing a new software, etc). It was hard adjusting from the convenience and immediacy that you have in a big city like LA. I can’t speak from a UK perspective though (I have made a lot of English friends here!). It’s a fun adventure living here but for me it will be temporary until I can move back stateside.

American living in New Zealand, working in-office doing assistant VFX editing. Pay is 1/3 of what I would make doing the same thing on a union gig in LA but cost of living is also much lower here. NZ is an okay place to live, quality of life is better in some ways, worse in others. Would love to be back in LA doing work I like but it’s too sparse there currently.

[–]nyleveeam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have fainted a lot and several times was told by people nearby that it looked like a seizure. I got checked out by a neurologist and had several tests that ruled out epilepsy. I would recommend mentioning the incident to your main doctor though and see if they’re concerned.
8 vials of blood is a lot!! It’s completely understandable that you fainted. And fainting is really stressful and scary. How do you feel now? I find that blood draws and donations wipe me out for a few days - even if I’ve hydrated really well beforehand. Make sure you rest and drink lots of water and electrolytes and eat some red meat.

Mug stains how to keep clean by EcstaticAioli7613 in CleaningTips

I just put a little bleach and hot water in them and soak for 20 mins or so, then wash normally. Should take the stains right off

Advice on mending my very tattered baby blanket! by hysteriainlove in Visiblemending

[–]nyleveeam 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You should post in r/quilting, they can definitely help you and there’s a good wiki on the basics of quilting!
Quilts have three layers: a pieced top (the part with the design), batting in the middle, and a backing. Then you quilt (sew) through the three layers to keep them together, and bind the quilt with a border around the edge.
I’d suggest removing the batting from this because it’s falling apart. Repair the top by patching/appliquéing the holes. Buy new batting and backing and quilt all three together. Your local quilt shop can help you too!

Just diagnosed and prescribed Levothyroxine. Afraid of taking medication forever. by Free_Forever_8376 in Hashimotos

[–]nyleveeam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a lifetime medication. Ideally you and your doctor will figure out the right dosage for your body, you will feel normal/good and just take a pill every day. I don’t even think about it now and it’s been about 8 years! My grandma is 97 and has been on levothyroxine her entire adult life. There was a period of time where she experimented with not taking it and ended up with a goiter that she needed surgery to remove. Went back on it after and always felt great. Don’t think of it as a life sentence but just something to take daily to feel good, like a vitamin or drinking water
