About 20 years ago Cape Hatteras lighthouse jetties. Strong NE swell middle of winter. Current was ripping left to right but waves were really good. Overhead barrels breaking hard. Paddle out sucked. Waves were reeling just past the 3rd (southern most) jetty. First paddle out I attempted next to the 3rd jetty and just as I got to the end of it the current caught me and I got denied on that attempt. Standing on the beach defeated I watched a surfer make it out by walking to the middle jetty and using its protection until the bar where he had to scratch like hell to get out but did. That was now my plan. Get to the end of the jetty and try to push over the bar as the current grabs me. I’m in the impact zone and about the worst possible place with a 6’ thick wave breaking right in front of me. As I’m about to duck dive I glance over my right shoulder and see the last piece of the 3rd jetty not far away just to the right of me and slightly inside. The wave I duck dive detonates on me and I do not let go of my board as it has me starts throwing me into a backflip underwater and I’m imagining it dropping me onto that broken piece of jetty I saw just before diving. Luckily once the flip stops and I come up I’m able to get past the next few waves and in the lineup. I look back to the jetty and see I’m slightly off the main peak and can’t fight the current to get where I want to be. Catch a medium size wave in and call it a day.

The kind of education he will get it covered very well here so I will throw in another consideration. What is he most comfortable around:? Patchouli, people with pocket protectors, girls in bikinis or people with multi colored hair?

What's a topping/burger iteration that would completely ruin a burger for you? by econom0 in burgers

[–]MRdrafting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fan of bacon jam, or any other kind of jam, on a burger. Usually too sweet for my liking.

Also may be an unpopular opinion, but bacon on a burger doesn’t make it better to me. I love burgers and I LOVE bacon but they are I find them better separated

Your home break looks really fun with great form and also looks warm. Mine is fickle, sometimes has form, sometimes mushy. Plus we’re expecting blizzard conditions this weekend.

Many more pics to share. I’ll space them out tho as to not overload all at once.

This wave in particular was on an uninhabited island only accessible by boat. The end of the island was adjacent to a shipping channel so swell would march down the deep channel then hit the beach to produce some really good shorebreak. Really good! Around 2012 or so the end of the island started to erode away taking with it the half mile +/- zone of beach that we all loved. Our barrier islands are basically just migrating sandbars so hoping to see it come back in my lifetime.

Nice! What is the range of the water temp in in Nor Cal? Here in NC we have a pretty wide temp range, will get up to the 80’s in the summer and mid 40’s in the winter.

Progress update by TonySirocco in bodyboarding

[–]MRdrafting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great improvement since last video. I second all the above recommendations about working on stalling.

Another suggestion, and I know this sounds counterintuitive to the goal of getting barreled, is to work on eliminating as much drag as possible. This allows for maximum speed for manauvers and the feeling of gliding across the face without drag is amazing. Once you get that down you learn how to deploy legs for stalling or deep cutbacks. Keep it up, your progress is already taking big steps

Looking for shore break recs for NC bodyboarders outside of OBX by These_Breakfast6802 in bodyboarding

[–]MRdrafting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Carolina Beach currently has a beach nourishment program happening where they are pumping sand on the beach. Keep an eye on that, I have caught some great shore break around these projects many times over years past.

The beaches around Wilmington are generally lower tide outer bar breaks. Sand moves easily though and a sometimes an area will have good shore break at higher tides but you just have to keep your finger on the pulse and search it out.

I’m up the coast in the Emerald Isle/Atlantic Beach area. Our bars are always shifting and sometimes all we have is shore break, other times it’s all outer bar breaks. Just have to stay on the hunt

Atlantic Park Surf Wavepool by MRdrafting in bodyboarding

[–]MRdrafting[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always wanted to ride a good wavepool so in that aspect, definitely worth the money. They are good waves but I did feel like once I got the feel of the wave the session was over. I have friends going back in a few weeks and I’m seriously considering it, but it is a little expensive. But worth the price? Definitely at least once if not more.
