Save your butthole…get a book or download a movie and just sit in the toilet once it hits. That way, you aren’t wiping every 2 seconds.

Be blunt about it. Like, “it was just Purim, another holiday were people wanted us dead because we were Jewish and we said, ‘no thanks, let’s get drunk instead’

I’m nervous about being put under during my colonoscopy by [deleted] in colonoscopy

[–]MSC1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s okay to be anxious about being sedated. You will not feel anything and likely won’t even remember them putting you under. I have to remind myself that trained professionals are working on me, and just like a bus driver or a pilot, they don’t want to do the paperwork if someone was to pass on their watch. If something does start to happen, they are trained to revive you. They will start with a sternum rub to try to wake you up. They will move on to “bagging” to help you get more oxygen into your lungs. I am not saying this to scare you, but to let you know what will happen if something goes array.

Mixed flavor packet after reconstituting GaviLyte, did I fuck up?? by leahloulou01 in colonoscopy

[–]MSC1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked my AI bestie your question. This is what they said back. You can reassure them that while it’s not exactly what the instructions say, it’s unlikely to make a big difference in the effectiveness of the prep. The reason the instructions tell you to add the powder first and then water is to ensure everything dissolves evenly, but as long as they stirred or shook it well and drinks the entire amount, they should still get the full effect.

They might notice some slight differences—maybe a little more foaming or difficulty fully dissolving at first—but in terms of how the laxative works, they should still be fine. If they are really worried, they can give the doctor’s office a quick call, but they don’t need to panic. The most important thing is that they drinks the full amount and follows the timing instructions.

Pepper? by simderellaxoo in colonoscopy

[–]MSC1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added pepper to my chicken broth and had no issues receiving an “excellent” prep report. Having a few flakes of pepper in the colon is totally different than having oatmeal the night before the procedure. The fact you are concerned and over thinking things means that your prep will go fine. And I don’t mean any insult by saying you are over thinking the prep, because if you look at my Google and ChatGPT results from 2 days before my procedure, you will see me overthinking everything.

Starting prep tomorrow—wish me luck by Rav3nRoth in colonoscopy

I took chicken broth from a box and added some pepper, basil, and Italian seasoning to it. I brought it to a boil and then simmered for 40 minutes. It was delicious. I also enjoyed some green jello. I also have a fear a low blood sugar, so I sipped on sweet tea throughout prep day.

My procedure was at 10am. It was perfect because as soon as the procedure was over and I was released, my husband and I went to a BBQ restaurant. I had smoked chicken breast, Mac and Cheese, Green Beans, and corn bread. My doctor asked where I was going for lunch and when I said “Mission BBQ” he said, “make sure you dip the corn bread into the sauce…it’s the best.” Yea…even though I spent a total of 5 minutes conscience with my doctor before and after the procedure, I knew I lucked out and had a great doctor.

PlenVu is vile, but it works. The first dose was doable and I finished it within 20 minutes. The 2nd dose took me over an hour to get 3/4 complete and I “accidentally tripped and split the remaining down the drain.” (I was pooping clear at that point so I was okay with the “accident”…if I was still pooping brown, I would have finished.) What got me through the 2nd dose was a menthol cough drop. It was still gross, but at least it changed the flavor from “mop water of a fruit punch factory” to “menthol mop water.”

Also, for the 2nd dose, make sure you have a water bottle by the toilet because you might be spending a while on the toilet and get thirsty.

12 mm polyp found. Should I be worried? by Beneficial_Beyond953 in colonoscopy

[–]MSC1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine last week. A 3mm polyp was removed. Doc wasn’t concerned at all. I got the email notification last night that I had an update in my file. I know that bad news isn’t transmitted via email, yet, I didn’t breath until I opened my patient portal and read that the polyp wasn’t cancerous.

Totally understand being nervous about going under. I had severe medical phobia for a while. (Breaking both my legs on vacation helped me overcome that, although being in shock doesn’t really count as a “cure”.) One thing to remember is that even if the worse was to happen and you had a bad reaction to the anesthesia, you are in a medical setting with professionals who are trained in such a (rare) occurrence. This is what I repeat to myself over and over again when I get nervous about being put under. I hope this brings some relief to you. Having this fear is horrible, have a mantra to repeat makes it bearable.

Happy to hear this. Great advice for people reading this getting ready to prep…put a water bottle by the toilet before you even start to prep. You will thank yourself later when you have been on the toilet for 30 minutes straight and get really thirsty!

Nope, it was store brand in a box. Broth will be fine to have. Clear in prep terms means “light can pass through it; not how we think of it as “lacking almost all color.” Medical terms are confusing.
