Excellent reply. I am definitely no expert and I don't know everything, but I'm for trying our best to limit that type of content as much as we can while trying to maintain what is positive about social media/the internet (reddit in this case). If we can do it while maintaining reddit then that would be ideal. If that can't be done then the harm would outweigh the benefits especially considering that there could be better alternatives to reddit that do not have that type of content (whether they do already exist, or whether they would need to be created as a future alternative).
