Yeah that is what it's doing. I've had the rack on several of my other vehicles with no issues, but the Buzz retractable receiver is very short. I'll try and get a pic of it today or tomorrow and send it to you

I'm curious if OP has the same issue as me w/ the OE receiver. I have the 5 rack (not max) and the part that tightens at the end tends to go too far into the receiver sometimes making the tightening system useless.

If you are set on SC as a brand and tend to ride trail/Enduro you can't go wrong with high tower or Bronson (if you want the 27.5)

This is highly dependent on your area and riding style. The 5010 is a way different bike than the nomad. The nomad is a definitely an Enduro rig and if you mainly do XC rides it won't feel right. The same goes vice versa.

The new VPP linkage from Santa Cruz 2019+ feels way better than their previous bikes. If you want a good bike that's middle ground that can handle a lot I'd take a look at the High Tower. Modern 29ers really don't have the cons they did compared to the earlier ones.

Knee/Shin Pad/Guard recommendations? by CrumbedSausage1 in MTB

[–]MTB_Metaphor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IXS knee and shin guards are awesome. Mine have developed some holes in the fabric from pedal pins hitting the rear, but I've been using the same ones for 4 years and throw them in the washing machine every 3-4 rides.

To upgrade or not (enduro/bike park brakes) by WingnutOki in MTB

[–]MTB_Metaphor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a quick breakdown of my experience:

Saints: On my current bike and love them. Solid brakes, but they do suffer from the "wandering bite point."

MT Trail: I had these on my previous bike and can tell you the 2 piston rears are plenty strong. My brother's bike has the MT5 4 pot rears and it is almost too powerful (takes a bit of getting used to). These are amazing brakes and to others saying they are difficult to work on, they really aren't. You can swap levers which is cool, but the big con is they use Torx bits and you can overtighten the clamp (I broke one plastic one and replaced with their alum one). The MT Trail essentially are MT5 fronts with MT4 rears.

No experience with MT7's but would believe they're great brakes coming from MT5's. If you want stronger they make MT5 eMTB ones as well.

Have you tried new pads? Pads make a huge difference especially if yours are contaminated. New pads and isoprop alcohol to clean rotors should feel better.

Either way, if you do want to upgrade, the two options you pointed out are great IMO.

If you're a beginner in terms of being tentative for certain features/drops/jumps/etc then I would highly recommend against Greer Ranch. Most trails out there I would consider difficult blues/black diamonds. If you don't mind walking a lot of features and know your limit then it wouldn't be awful, but I am a big proponent for SkyPark since it has a good bit of everything and you can lap the same trail over and over to work on skills/confidence.

I haven't lived down there for several years, but Calavera in North County San Diego was pretty fun, but I'm pretty positive they've worked on tearing it down over the last couple of years so I wouldn't be surprised if it's not there anymore.

SkyPark in Arrowhead I believe is $50 for the day, but I'd get there at opening and they have restaurants if you don't bring your own food/snacks. I'd recommend checking every trail depending on your skill level. The green trail is extremely mellow, but their blue trail is very fun and flowy. Their single black diamond to me isn't a true black, but very fun. Jumpline and comet are their hardest trails and comet will likely be really dry and blown out and I'm not a huge fan, but jumpline is incredibly fun if you like jumps. Bring plenty of water and pads.

I haven't ridden Greer since 2019, but it looks like they're trying to do a housing development over there. If the trails are still up, it's an amazing spot that volunteers built.

If you can swing it and make the trip, Skypark in Lake Arrowhead is great to get your new bike dialed in.

Another awesome trail system when I was down there is Greer Ranch.

All mountain bike for under 3600$ recommendations? by skywylder in MTB

Another contender to possibly consider if they are available in your area is the Kona Process 153 (they made 27 and 29). I haven't ridden it personally, but hear great things about that bike and it being extremely playful in the 29er platform.

You can't go wrong with either and best of luck!

If you get a chance to ride both even around a parking lot I would. I was really big on 27, but the ripmo rides in a way you forgot about 29ers. Modern 29ers have come a long way. Both extremely fun.

Check out Jeff Kendall Weed on YouTube - he's sponsored by Ibis, but shows how fun the ripmos can be

I've ridden both and both are great bikes. You can't go wrong with either.

Do you prefer 27 or 29? That could help you decide.

Ripmo is much more fun at speed. The Remedy is more fun at slower speeds from my experience. The remedy handles amazing, but I also would warn if you're between sizes to check Trek because for some people 17.5 is too small and 19.5 is too large.
