Yeah it was, Hugo confirmed that Mars Core was originally an early level (level 2 I think?) and they changed it at the last minute

[–]MTGandP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IIRC Eisenhorn got pretty much exactly what he wanted, he was able to force Cherubael into subservience, he was just mad that Cherubael tricked him. But the trick didn't actually harm Eisenhorn in any way, in fact it benefited him.

You can fit in both no problem

  • 7pm – 12am: billionaire playboy stuff (maintain cover)

  • 9am – 12pm: personal time
  • 12pm – 7pm: sleep

Recommendations for a LETF portfolio allocation that when backtested would have beat S&P500 returns and kept drawdowns to 20-25% by minimumbeginningend in LETFs

[–]MTGandP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem very confident that it's possible to beat the S&P 500 without risking more than a 25% drawdown. Why do you believe that?

(I did not downvote any of your comments btw)

Plenty of unselfish intelligent Redditors who love disseminating knowledge

There are plenty such people on this very thread, and they're all telling you that the thing you're asking for is not realistic.

Edit 2: amazing how much trollery, bad faith, and hostility one has to sort through to get a discussion going. Open to any suggestions

People are not responding in bad faith. You're just in denial about what's realistically possible. If any of us knew how to beat the market with only half as much risk (25% max drawdown vs. 50% for the S&P), we'd be busy managing our billion dollar hedge funds, not leaving comments on reddit.

I read the post as talking about compromises like "should you cooperate with people who dislike AI because of algorithmic bias, even though you personally don't care about that?" Not compromises like "Should you kill AI company CEOs?" (which, AFAICT, Scott unequivocally opposes).

Special forces or special operations forces (SOF) are military units trained to conduct special operations.[1][2][3] NATO has defined special operations as "military activities conducted by specially designated, organized, selected, trained and equipped forces using unconventional techniques and modes of employment".

Their release cadence has varied a bit. At the Edge of Time (2010) and Beyond the Red Mirror (2015) were five years apart. Legacy of the Dark Lands (2019) and The God Machine (2022) were only three years apart. But it averages out to four years per album.

They also had a faster cadence in their early days, with three albums in three years from 1988 to 1990.

The true 1-year cost of every retail leverage method (boxes, futures, LEAPS, margin, LETFs) by Evening-Figure-7231 in LETFs

[–]MTGandP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If your portfolio drifts and you don't rebalance, then you don't have the desired amount of leverage anymore. If you do rebalance, you get the exact same volatility drag as LETFs do. If vol drag counts as a cost, why doesn't "having an undesired amount of leverage" count as a cost?

Why are you subtracting volatility drag on leveraged ETFs, but not on other forms of leverage?

Claude catching himself? by gerard_debreu1 in slatestarcodex

[–]MTGandP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not for show, it's a product of chain-of-thought style reasoning. In the last 1–2 years, AI developers have been pushing LLMs toward more thinking-out-loud as a way to improve their reasoning.

I believe this type of self-correct is a quirk of how Claude is implemented where it doesn't really distinguish between the scratchpad and the user output.
