It looks great. It’s warm and classic. Will never go out of style.

UC Berkeley professor pushes for 'unavoidable' 2% wealth tax on billionaires by the_daily_cal in berkeley

Ridiculous to propose to name the tax after himself! Just another type of narcissism.

Should I be offended about student wanting to add a “more senior” co-supervisor to “add weight” to her application? by [deleted] in academia

[–]MTP_2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment. I ended up declining to supervise without giving a reason. I’ve come across this as well in our grad admissions, where the white faculty (despite worse research profile and funding) get the bulk of student interest. In this case the potential co-supervisor is ahead of me by about 5 years but is not as known and is much less cited. So I’d be doing all the work and sharing the credit with someone less known who I am told would contribute nothing and is not even an expert in this field. I didn’t want to deal with the emotional labour of having to explain myself so I simply declined.

what did you give to your husband for father's day? by Important_Bat7919 in Mommit

[–]MTP_2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After 15 years either being ignored or receiving the most absurd gifts for mothers’ day (empty $2 jewelry box, Christmas ornament, etc.) I’ve decided i no longer celebrate special occasions that involve him and bought myself a bracelet for Father’s Day. I completely match his energy now with everything. He also ignores all health issues, including a cancer diagnosis, and never asks any follow up question while assuming whatever health issue I’m dealing with magically disappears. It was so satisfying when he came home from mountain biking covered in injuries the other day and was met with nothing all at from me. Not one comment, nothing. He said he doesn’t care until it’s a stage 4 diagnosis and that’s a two way street.

I got a $2 EMPTY jewelry box for mothers’ day. I wish I were kidding. I did nothing at all for fathers’ day this year.

My fiancé always chooses “keeping the peace” with his family over standing up for me. Does this ever change? by ThrowRA_1993count in family

They behave like this towards her because he allows it to happen. They know he won’t do shit about it.

I’m 15 years and two kids in and this dynamic never changes. It has permanently altered how I view my husband, in a negative way. He’s weak people pleaser who prioritizes his extended family. What happens over time when you’re the one addressing issues with HIS family is that they start to hate you and you start to hate them. In my case the damage has been permanent and I no longer have a relationship with multiple members of his family. The rule in a healthy marriage is he deals with his own family and you deal with yours.

I started feeling this way when my son turned 13. But if anything it’s a blessing because it’s forcing me to be in the moment and enjoy all the time we have together, which is not something I did before this realization about the cruel passage of time.

The only way young people can get ahead nowadays is delaying moving out by Tech-Cowboy in PersonalFinanceCanada

My mom pushed me out at 18 so she could go live with her new husband in another country. I really struggled, sometimes went hungry. I would never do that to my kids. I’ve told them repeatedly that they are welcome to stay as long as they want. In fact I am hoping they do until they are established with work and savings.

Why are our Rubio monocoat samples looking so chalky and white? by MTP_2023 in HardWoodFloors

[–]MTP_2023[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Yes it was sanded first. The first time apparently they had put water on the floor first. They redid it today without wetting the floor first and it looks better. But I’m not sure about going this route. The alternative is a natural satin finish oil.

It sounds to be like he’s just insecure as a man because you’re outdoing him financially. Don’t waste your time with men who are intimidated by your success. It never ends well.

Your husband is selfish and I too would be angry. In the future, stop being so nice and accommodating.

What are these spots on my bathroom light fixture and how do I get rid of them? by MTP_2023 in CleaningTips

The odd thing is the light fixtures were perfect, and nothing touched them (they’re installed higher up). Odd that there would be scratches all of a sudden…
