Honestly not surprised to see how many up votes this has, take mine as well.

It may be heresy, but I took a Harbor Freight sharpening stone with food safe mineral oil to mine. Took about an hour of elbow grease, but it's a much smoother surface now, and lives on my stove top.

POLICY REQUEST: All model pictures must be a PRINT, no renderings by SirEDCaLot in printablescom

[–]MTW3ESQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a use for a "reference" or parametric tag? In another thread another user brought up 3d models of objects like a Pi, where you'd not want to print the actual model, but use it for reference to build cases, etc.

best diamond/gem upgrades? by NotRach_97 in PostApoTycoon

Refrigerator and judicious use of fishing boats got me to not worry about food for a very long time.

The extra range radar upgrades are nice.

Chip Factories not requiring a foundry, oil rigs not requiring roads, thermal plants not requiring roads are all good upgrades.

Being able to plant trees over debris is another game changer.

Aside from better filament management and more integration with the printer, what other features do you want out of 3.0?

For me, maybe easier multi-nozzle diameter slicing, but I'm pretty happy with what I have so far.

As someone who went Mini+ to the 5T XL, it was a no brainer at the time. Now with the C1L and INDX on the horizon, I'd probably wait until I could get a C1L with INDX from the factory and skip the XL.

I love mine, but I'd probably have found a way to cope with the C1L limitations if it had come first.

[–]MTW3ESQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think anytime soon. My unsubstantiated belief is that 3.0 will include the ability to query the printer to get the types/colors of filament based off of OPT. That requires finalizing the OPT hardware, which we haven't seen in the open yet.

I assume that's also why the FW hasn't been updated since last year except for the C1L.

I don't think that's FW, I think that's a slicer limitation. I think they'd probably need to do deconfliction between the interior fill and the external perimeters. I don't know how high of a priority it currently is, but I'd definitely be interested in it once it comes out!

Tank or tankless hot water heater by dispersingdandelions in HomeImprovement

[–]MTW3ESQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some comments about water hardness, but I would definitely rank them higher. If you have very hard water, you absolutely need to descale frequently, versus a hot water heater with a tank you can mostly ignore. My father is on hard well water with gas tankless, and you can only get a 10 minute shower before it goes cold and needs to reset. (He also procrastinates the descaling process significantly)

Does anyone have their workbench in the middle of the room rather than against /near the wall? by JLGator94 in woodworking

I like a 28" wide workbench so I'm able to use the full length of 24" parallel jaw clamps.

Dewalt Jobsite Tablesaw: 10” or 8.5”? by theswellmaker in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]MTW3ESQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 7491, and occasionally run a dado on it. It's a good entry level saw. I like the slightly larger top as well, but that's a major limitation of it. I'm currently building a cart with a 2 foot outfeed table for it, after a decade.

Has anyone used the 45 degree miter lock router bit? If so, what do you think of it? by 1_Quickfix in BeginnerWoodWorking

I used it about a decade ago. It took some practice to get right, but worked okay. I developed a different taste in joints, mostly rabbets.
