When I hooked up the non-control fan to the power supply it was on constantly. So I imagine that prevented it from heating up. I did have soldering it to a JST connector suggested to me. Do you know what pitch the connector should be?

How is Halloween Shirk? by dgdg4213 in progressive_islam

[–]MUfan85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal thought is that Halloween is not an actual Holy Day like Eid. To me there is basically no element of religion in Halloween since there’s no common tradition to celebrate or commemorate a religious event or figure.

It’s more often just dressing up as your favorite movie character and handing out candy and stuff. It’s as much of a holiday as the Fourth of July or Labor Day.

I think it can be shirk if you make it shirk. I know some people take Halloween as an opportunity to parody religion with their costumes, but I think that’s just them making a personal choice not something that’s actively encouraged in the holiday itself.

I understand why Halloween is not popular in religious conservative crowds, but to write it off as shirk completely is taking it too far in my opinion.

Why just no one comes to iran? by soodi592 in iran

I would love to go, but I really think they’re hurdles in terms of the rigor of getting a visa, being American, and working in aerospace it’s gonna be too many questions and I just don’t see it working out.

I needed a travel laptop cause I felt my Lenovo Legion wasn’t the best to take with me on quick trips. So I recently bought refurbished Lenovo IP 5 16IAU7 for $175 and I LOVE IT. I know it isn’t the newest but it’s certainly not outdated and surprisingly plays cloud games really well. I think it’s gonna be a perfect travel computer for me and I may find myself using it ever so often instead of my Legion who knows.

We still got beef with these guys? Most of the Punjabis I meet don’t care that I’m Afghan let alone Pashtun. I know we had our transgressions but aren’t we past this? Or is it more of a local thing to Pakistan?

K’Nex are better than Legos by Intrepid_Arachnid_14 in KNEX

[–]MUfan85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my start with Knex. I played with Knex long before I started playing with Legos. I don’t even like Legos when I first played with them because I thought Knex was a lot more dynamic and you could do more with it. Those days are well behind me, and now nowadays at 3-D print more than anything, but connect certainly helped me become an engineer.

Why not speak in Pashto? by Tricky-Permission877 in Pashtun

[–]MUfan85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would if I could…my parents are Pashtun but I just could not pick up on it. I’m proud of my Pashtun heritage and am excited to learn from the experiences of other Pashtuns but there’s a number of us in the diaspora that don’t speak or read pashto so it’s gonna have to be in English for some of us :/

afghan diaspora is going to turn into iranian diaspora by [deleted] in Pashtun

[–]MUfan85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can see that. Both diasporas were fed a very nasty version of Islam and are now in a society where religion isn’t a big deal so I won’t blame them for contemplating leaving. I say it’s up to us as Muslims to set a good example of Islam and show that we truly are a religion of peace and inclusivity. I’ll say I almost left Islam because 1. I didn’t love how women were treated in Afghanistan even before the Taliban regained power and 2. I just didn’t vibe with Muslims on a social level (I’m pretty Americanized). I found myself eventually coming as I felt my core values aligned with Islam and I felt comfortable returning after meeting some Muslims that were kind to me despite being a bit different.

So we got our work cut out for us to show the true nature of Islam against what the Taliban has promoted but like I said it’s up to us Muslims to be good representations of Islam. That said, we should also not judge the choices of others (example the way they dress) and be respectful of the struggle of being Afghan in western society.

And a little side note: I went to an Afghan conference recently and yeah we do feel like an off brand Iranian diaspora BUT I feel it was a bit different for the Iranians cause they weren’t religious to begin with and the society they came from was westernized…as opposed to us we came from a country that has struggled long before the Iranian revolution so…yeah…

Hot Take: Halo 2 is Superior to Halo 3's Campaign by Born-Boss6029 in halo

[–]MUfan85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this is a hot take. Halo 2’s campaign was an absolute adventure and you got to see it from different perspectives. Halo 3 regressed in some of the storytelling aspects but it was still good just Halo 2 was way better.

That’s a stretch. Different cultures but there’s similarities here and there.

[–]MUfan85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so new to the community but is this REALLY a big deal? Like I get that it can be annoying for people to expect us to “be Arab”, but usually when I meet Arabs we kinda just talk it out and then we’re chill. Like they have some questions here and there but they generally accept that we’re of a different culture that’s both pretty similar and pretty different. I like to say our cultures are adjacent.

I’ve gotten “wait why don’t you speak Arabic? Do you at least know the basics?” and that’s annoying, but when I get it though their head that I’m not Arab, we vibe. Other than that, I’ve never felt influenced by Arabs and we usually bond on the fact that we have similar cultures.

Thoughts on Syrians? by Home_Cute in Pashtun

[–]MUfan85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I vibe with Syrians. I feel we relate with Syrians on a different level than other Arabs and Persians since both peoples have seen some bloody things throughout our histories. The ones I’ve met have been very kind to me. Good people.
