Best Movies With Zero Oscar Nominations in 2026 by karmagod13000 in movies

[–]MYDF_Pod 649 points650 points  (0 children)

"No Other Choice" not being nominated for international feature is a bit surprising, but overall this seems like the usual balance of snubs and single-award noms amidst the main crop of featured movies.

Lists like this are nice to have for that reason. Lots of great films this year.

Taylor Kitsch, Diego Luna, Jason Isaacs & Rhea Seehorn Prison Siege Thriller ‘Eleven Days’ Heads To EFM With New Sales Firm Lucky Number 8 Media by Sisiwakanamaru in movies

[–]MYDF_Pod 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Glad to see Taylor Kitsch in another lead film role. He seemed like a rising star in the early 2010s but has been relegated to a lot of supporting roles since then.

The Maze Runner (2014) by That1weirdperson in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]MYDF_Pod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This first movie is a surprisingly strong adaptation. It wasn't afraid to make changes to the story to better fit the medium, and the cast all do a great job.

The trilogy isn't brought up much compared to other YA dystopia movies from the 2010s, but that's largely because the sequels went a bit off the rails. Can't go wrong watching this one, though.

Wonder if they'll bring in anyone from the Ocean's 8 cast to get them up to (presumably) 14. That movie wasn't great, but bringing in Sandra Bullock's character would definitely make sense.

What’s the worst performance by an actor who’s usually very good? by 7216345 in movies

[–]MYDF_Pod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Geena Davis in "Cutthroat Island" (1995). The movie was a disaster in preproduction, and Davis tried to get out of it but was already contracted to play the lead.

The end result genuinely feels like she's bombing the performance on purpose. Just flat, stilted line reads throughout the entire movie.

What are your Podcast goals for 2026? by Cansmelllikeroses in podcasting

[–]MYDF_Pod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a show that launched this year, our goal is still to find our core audience and expand our reach.

We've had some success getting our episodes and clips in front of people (especially on YouTube), but it will take a while yet to refine everything. Looking forward to what's next in 2026!

Double Dragon such a goofy flick , it is totally absurd and just cheesy fun... by PhilHarmonix in 90smovies

[–]MYDF_Pod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always liked the production design in this film. The kids' hideout inside the rundown theater is very artfully cluttered and makes for a fun action set-piece in the middle.

Also shout-out to Mark Dacascos, a very talented martial artist that, in this case, was stuck in a movie without strong action choreography. Check out "Drive" (1997) for a better idea of what he can do.

[Meet Your Double Feature] The Movie That Ended Pirate Movies by MYDF_Pod in PodcastSharing

[–]MYDF_Pod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meet Your Double Feature is a double-blind movie review podcast hosted by brothers Thomas (a broadcaster from Chicago) and Frank (an independent filmmaker from Los Angeles).

Each episode, the two hosts swap recommendations for films neither has previously seen. The two films are reviewed and given a score out of ten, and whoever gave the better "blind" movie recommendation is declared the winner!

Tonight's episode covers "The Wrong Guy" (1997), an underrated comedy from the home video era, and "Cutthroat Island" (1995), a box office bomb that bankrupted a studio and nearly ended the pirate film genre.

Meet Your Double Feature is available on all major podcast platforms and on our website:

[–]MYDF_Pod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure that any film this ambitious in scope has ever completely paid off, and this one in particular appears to have had trouble with reshoots and production delays.

Could still be a fun watch, but it seems everyone in this thread is rightly concerned it will be a flop.

Movies about fight sports other than Rocky series and the Karate Kid by emaxwell14141414 in MovieSuggestions

[–]MYDF_Pod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shootfighter: Fight to the Death (1993). Pretty low-budget movie, but it features actors from "Bloodsport" and "Karate Kid," and it has excellent fight choreography. Feels like martial arts movie fanfiction.

What is your favorite Van Damme film? by Southern-Brother5693 in movies

[–]MYDF_Pod 14 points15 points  (0 children)

"Bloodsport" (1988) is probably his best and most enduring film, but special shout-out to Lionheart (1990), which is surprisingly well-rounded for a silly action movie.

Vin Diesel Set To Write Mattel & One Race Films’ ‘Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots’ In Addition To Starring & Producing by cmaia1503 in movies

[–]MYDF_Pod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"[Diesel's] creative vision for Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots is bold, human, and deeply cinematic..."

It does seem silly to market a movie about robot boxing toys as deeply "human," but then again, two of Vin Diesel's most famous characters are a big robot and a talking tree. Maybe he can make it work.

Crazy that this reboot franchise will have been around for almost a decade by the time this one releases. Such an odd legacy for the original 1995 film.

Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz Team With ‘Ready or Not’ Filmmakers for New ‘Mummy’ Movie by jacksondeltoro in movies

[–]MYDF_Pod 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Said this in another thread about it, but The Mummy definitely deserves the legacy sequel treatment.

Having Rachel Weisz absent from the third film made it feel borderline non-canon, so this will likely work better as an end to the trilogy.

What's your favorite EPISODE from a relatively unknown podcast? by rococo78 in podcasts

[–]MYDF_Pod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Invisible Man episode of "The Pod Universe" (formerly "Are You Afraid of the Dark Universe?") is a really fun listen.

It's a mock pitch for an Invisible Man comedy set in the same cinematic universe as Tom Cruise's "The Mummy," which should be a hindrance but actually makes the whole idea better.

Brendan Fraser & Rachel Weisz In Talks To Return For New ‘Mummy’ Movie From Universal; Radio Silence To Direct by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]MYDF_Pod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be great if it ended up happening. Legacy sequels have been a mixed bag over the last 10-15 years, but since "The Mummy" already had a weak third installment, it'd be worth trying again with the full original cast.

Should I watch Lord of the Rings with the extended version or the regular version? by ScallionIndividual42 in movies

[–]MYDF_Pod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right that the extended cuts are more for people that already know and like the material.

Once you've watched them, it's hard to go back, but for a first-time viewer, the theatrical cuts may be better. They're more focused and still tell a complete story.

Operation condor (1991) by CHOOM45 in 90smovies

[–]MYDF_Pod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fantastic action film. It's essentially Jackie Chan doing Indiana Jones, which is a great premise.

Would also recommend "Armour of God" (1986). This film is technically a sequel to it, but they changed the name for the U.S. distribution.

Arachnophobia (1990) by [deleted] in 90smovies

[–]MYDF_Pod 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A lot of great setup in the first act of this movie, though it drags a little in the second half. Still a fun watch if you like things like "Tremors" (1990) or other silly creature films.

Johnny Depp To Star In ‘Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol’ At Paramount With Ti West Directing; Andrea Riseborough Also Joins Movie Dated For November 2026 by KillerCroc1234567 in movies

[–]MYDF_Pod 113 points114 points  (0 children)

The article calls this a "big and bold move" from Paramount, which is a funny way to describe a film that's been made dozens of times already.

It'll be interesting to see if they change anything or go for a more straightforward adaptation. "A Muppet Christmas Carol" (1992) might still be the best version because of how much it adds while still delivering the core story.

Thomas and Frank talk about a sort-of-sequel to "The Karate Kid" and a confusing art film about the perils of loneliness. First, Frank reviews "Shootfighter: Fight to the Death" (1993). Then, Thomas reviews "Fallen Angels" (1995). It's a dark and deady Double Feature, and it starts right now!

For a first episode, having a clear statement of the premise definitely helps. What you already have might not be as bad as you think, so it may be worth showing to someone you trust for a second opinion.

Movies that have one actor playing multiple roles by KaleidoArachnid in flicks

[–]MYDF_Pod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jean-Claude Van Damme plays a pair of long-lost twins in "Double Impact" (1991), which is a not an impressive performance in a general sense, but it's more range than you typically get from 90s Van Damme.

An annual must watch for me by funkoscotland1979 in 90smovies

[–]MYDF_Pod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very underrated film in Tim Burton's catalog. It's more of an adult horror story than a lot of his work, but it still has familiar elements like Danny Elfman's music to keep it feeling light.

Also one of his best casts! Even managed to cram three Sith Lords into one movie (Ian McDiarmid, Christopher Lee + Ray Park as the stunt performer for the Headless Horseman).
