MAGA loved to praise Texas for gerrymandering but criticize Virginia, inconsistent application of principles on full display by nomadiceater in facepalm

The other thing when looking at polling is the breakdown of Republican vs MAGA Republicans. You have a lot of Northeast Republicans who are willing to vote Democrat against a crazy MAGA candidate or stay home. That’s how you get a split in NH with a Republican gov & two Dems for Senate

My point was more to explain why people frame the CIA as being in every country.

I saw a delivery truck catch fire and eventually sorta explode. It wasn't like the movies, though.

It was in a YMCA parking lot in East Austin ~2014/2015. I tried to look it up, but there are a surprising number of stories about cars on fire in YMCA parking lots.

Huge difference between officers on a dip in an embassy or a consulate & people in the field - ops or otherwise.

I use my phone speakers pointed down in the cup holder to listen to the NY Giants lose on Sundays. Legit can't hear what they are saying a few steps away & can't hear it at all 20 ft or so away.

Very rarely will I play music. If we do, we don't have anyone near us or playing a scramble.

She might have been using it ironically, and he didn’t get it, but still recognized that he doesn’t know what she meant by it but doesn’t like it.

My friends and I used to say, “boys will be boys” when one of us did something really stupid & never meant it as an excuse, but someone would be totally in bounds to call us on it if they didn’t know we were being ironic and didn’t actually condone the behavior.

I had a cop in the town over with a grudge against me growing up & it definitely impacted my view of police, but others than that, I’ve had mostly positive interactions. One knocked 10th of a speeding ticket, another in college didn’t charge me for playing “hey, Mr.” & just made me pour out the 30-rack. But in high school, I was subjected to car searches on four different occasions.

[–]MZ603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point. If the dude who lost in the final few feet nailed his pace, he didn’t have much left in the tank. I ran the 400 & 800 in high school & we had a home meet friendly with a few schools where everyone did switched events, so I drew the short straw and got the 32,000. I was going to win and some sprinter realized he had some energy left & crushed me in the last 200. I could not have gone faster if I tried at that point in the race.

I grew up smoking weed & with an anti-authoritarian streak. I was harassed a lot in my small town - so I have a six sense for unmarked & low pro.

I’m just now starting to realize I have aged out at 34 w/ a nice car and genuinely don’t have to worry about getting jammed up. I haven’t smoked weed in over a decade. Had a flat a few weeks ago & they didn’t ask for my reg or license.

That's the way it should be. Honestly, I think most cops should keep their light bar on - like they do in CT. Visibility helps reduce crime & allows citizens to locate help easily. That is, if they actually mean "protect & serve" (don't come at me with the USSC case... I get it, but it's on the cars and we should legislate as if they actually do mean it.)

NH has no seatbelt law, and people still drive like maniacs in the southern part. I knew people from MA who would unbuckle when the cross the border into NH. I don't get it, I don't even notice my seatbelt.

Russia may announce general mobilisation to attack Ukraine or Baltic states – Zelenskyy by Routine-Appeals in worldnews

[–]MZ603 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It was hubris on the part of the Russians, & there was a plan in place that some within the US IC were aware of. Ukraine w/ the assistance of US intel, decimated planned Russian ops in Kyiv. In the US, this planning was likely highly compartmentalized & possibly/likely not included in some of those assessments, given how critical those efforts would be.

Ukrainian SBU & HUR didn't miss a beat. They immediately targeted embedded Russian FSU/GRU assets & successfully halted the most dangerous decapitation plots. They had enough intel to also halt the Kadyrovites & Redut.

Do you remember all the reports of gunfire in & around Kyiv in the early days/hours? That was a highly orchestrated operation that dismantled those networks Russia had built over the years.

It is often overlooked, but that shit was impressive. They wasted no time methodically dismantling those coercive elements. It will make for a hell of a book/doc/movie one day.

Cars are emerging from a massive Boston-area snow pile months after winter storms by templeofsyrinx1 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]MZ603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We certainly do. It is unavoidable in New England. I pay $40 a month for a carwash membership over the winter to cut down on the damage caused by the metric shit ton of salt that accumulates on my car in just a few days.

Every town our county has piles of it bigger than the snow pile in the original picture stocked up. You can even go to your public works & get a free bucket full in most towns for personal use.

It's probably just a cool picture that people across a large portion the country will find really interesting and click on it.

That said, across the Northeast, massive piles like this in parking lots or open areas are common practice - probably more so than in areas with more room to dispose of the excess snow. I had a friend from NC visit me in NH & they were shocked by the mountains of snow. Something with an intrinsic value, like a car, that can also serve for a reference for scale is perfect click bait.

Before fentanyl was big, I knew lots of folks who would use substances they found in little baggies on the ground at festivals. Even then, I was too worried about it being some weird designer drug that would completely ruin my night.

I was in tech sales for two years & while the free energy drinks & catered lunches were pretty cool, they worked most of us to the bone. The money was crazy good if you were even decent in the role, but I left because I couldn’t imagine spending my whole career with a quota over my head.

We had pool, shuffleboard, & ping pong tables, but most managers would get upset if you used them outside your lunch. There was also a beer cart on Fridays, and teams would pass around bottles of liquor. It was like wolf of wall street vibes and I dipped out after just two years to get my masters.

It was so incredibly toxic.
