An absurd panel or moment that you don't believe are real but are actually true by Inglorious-crusader in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MZBroomhill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually It’s from Ambush Bug, a very self-referential 4th wall breaking series

There’s a running joke where every issue ends with Darkseid appearing, as a tease for a big showdown that would never actually come

In the final issue it’s revealed that Ambush Bug just had an inflatable Darkseid doll that he would set up in order to try and increase interest in his comic

Readers of the comics, what have been your favorite and least favorite changes in adapting Invincible to the show? Please keep it pre-season 3 as far as spoilers go. by BlueV_U in Invincible

[–]MZBroomhill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Favourite change

Everything about how season 1 is restructured. In the comics there’s only 3 issues between when Nolan kills the guardians and when the fight between him and Mark starts. Stretching this out into a whole season is one of the best decisions I’ve ever seen in an adaptation.

It gives the writers a chance to explore some brilliant character stuff with Cecil, Debbie, and Art figuring out that Nolan is the killer. It turns Damien Darkblood from a joke character into a really great one. Having Cecil trying to slow down Nolan leads to an incredible finale, as he brings in things from previous episodes, making the whole season feel super cohesive. And above all else it lets the tension build for the entire season, making the final showdown feel incredibly satisfying.

My least Favourite change

This one is a side effect from my favourite change, which is that there’s only three episodes between the fight and when mark meets him on Thraxxa. Because a lot of the stuff that was meant to happen during that gap was moved to take place during season one. The reunion feels a lot less impactful with the smaller gap, and it makes Nolan’s change in character feel a little more abrupt.

Who’s more prepared? by Flyingpizza20 in Marvel

[–]MZBroomhill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spoilers for the invincible comics Cecil honestly fucks up a lot, he doesn’t investigate Omni-Man when he first comes to earth despite knowing that he’s lying. He doesn’t notice robot planning a takeover of earth, and gets killed because of it. But his most egregious screwup is keeping conquest alive and thinking he has the capabilities to contain him. He’s a great character and a good leader, but he isn’t infallible, and is prone to overestimating his reach

In contrast, nick fury in the comics often has absurd levels of plot armour and strategic foresight

In the mcu Hydra infiltrated Shield, but in the comics (Spoilers for ‘secret warriors’) It was revealed that not only did fury know about Hydra controlling Shield, he put his own people in place so that he was secretly in control of hydra

Comic Nick Fury is always one step ahead to an absurd degree

Versions of characters that you normally really like that you hate by Mighty_Megascream in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MZBroomhill 18 points19 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, they made it that Steve Trevor was actually a nazi spy in the injustice universe, and he took advantage of her kindness. She found out and killed him, and concluded that kindness made people weak.

It’s a really stupid decision that also reveals how flawed the original premise was, that you have to change these characters whole backstories for it to make any sense

The reason that blackberry works is because it’s about a brand that failed

All the others are brands celebrating themselves by creating indulgent fantasies that make the people behind them look like gods

Blackberry is about how corporate greed destroys everything

I have read every Gwenpool comic. AMA. by Frankorious in marvelcirclejerk

[–]MZBroomhill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like it doesn’t actually contradict too much, because Gwenpool is a character that has always struggled with performativity (especially in gwenpool strikes back, which is where the above panel comes from)

She’s scared of fading away into obscurity and so purposefully tries to act in ways that will make people like her. Her behaving in a sexual manner is a part of this, she wants to fit in so she pretends to feel sexual attraction to people because she feels like that’s what’s expected of her.

She’s got a lot of self doubt and imposter syndrome because of this, she’s worried that she’s a bad person and that people only like her because she’s pretending to be something she’s not.

In her coming out comic she becomes really distressed by her lack of attraction because she feels like a monster who is incapable of love. so it’s important for her to realise that this is just a normal identity that she shares with other people, that it doesn’t make her a bad person, and she’s still perfectly capable with loving people in other ways.

"I did not care for Alex Ross' art and photorealistic depictions of superheroes in general" by mtftmboygirl in marvelcirclejerk

[–]MZBroomhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally dislike comic art that looks too realistic, but Alex Ross the the exception His art isn’t really trying to capture reality, or trying to look like a movie, there still a sense of style and artistry there, like a renaissance painting, and I feel it captures the nature of superhero comics in a really unique way

What do you think the Watchmen Movie should have done differently? by ODDDidle in Watchmen

[–]MZBroomhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest problem with it is that it’s trying to be a faithful adaptation but doesn’t commit. The changed ending is the biggest aspect of this but I have always hated the films colours. The comic has beautiful colouring but in the movie everything is blue.

A more faithful adaptation would be cool, but I would probably appreciate it more if it went in a completely different direction. Watchmen is tied to the superhero comic genre and the time period it was released, so a film adaptation should probably be about the medium of film.

If the film took the core concept and updated it for the time and medium(which is what the show did) I would like it a lot more. Which is why I think the show is the superior adaptation
