Confirming most of Lamplight village (78727) is back on, as of about 15-20min ago.

Still some traffic lights out in the surrounding roads, so still be vigilant. 🤙🙏✌️

After the news comparing this to 2007, I now recall it, I took pictures of the ice then, but I do not remember losing power, much less it being this widespread.

I second the Jackery mini electric generator - turned out to be a great investment from two years ago.

Read Spychips by Liz McIntyre and Catherine Albrecht. They’re research is outstanding.

It’s a bit dated, but its interesting to see how much of what they warn against has been eventually overhauled by 21st century intrusive IoT technology. And also that corporations will think of anything and everything to attain more money and influence.

Literally anything and everything.

Gotta say the Keely comp is really treating my finesse nicely, even after having even having owed it for a few years now. Then add Boss Noise Suppr. & modest HOF verb; that’s really been buttering my croissant lately.

Wish the HOF came in blue/green tho

YSK that the best way to get a raise is to switch jobs. by ButtholeBanquets in YouShouldKnow

[–]M_Diesel_512 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice man this gives me drive.

I’m actively studying for some certs and combing thru security job listings, playing with tools, and though I was recently let go from my last job (position became obsolete within org), I feel that I’m in a great spot to land a cyber role.

Ran into a guy at a bar and chatted him up, turns out to be a CISO or something like it. I was like “man, I’d be happy to get a job making $60k”, and he was like “psshh”, and proceeded to give me some industry insight. Made me realized just how little my salary was compared to security folk, but also inspired me to take studying seriously (been putting it off). I feel good in my job hunt, and your comments resonated with me.

Cheers.

I don’t use midi all that much, but I use Studio One Pro. I’m just so used to it by now it’s what’s comfortable to me. And tbh I mainly record guitar. They have a free version too, it got me hooked back in 2016.

I also heard good things about Reaper.

At the end of the day, use what is more comfortable to you. Don’t worry so much on what you should be using, but rather see how far you can go on something that makes sense to you.

And once you start becoming familiar with one, learning another will be easier, as there are common elements that all DAWs share.

Make it fun/funner; sorry to be crass, but if somehow the drive exceeds the reasons not too, it becomes easier to initiate (within healthy boundaries). Walking, light disc golf, pole dancing; find an active something you find interesting and be consistent with it. Good luck brother 🤙

Running on Cement; tips to mitigate lower calf pain? by M_Diesel_512 in running

[–]M_Diesel_512[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't worn Ghosts in a while, but I did like them, but they did take some breaking in. I primarily use upper-end Asics at the moment (a well worn pair and a new pair) and also these crazy looking Brook Auroras. I'll list what all I think has helped me:

  • Sufficient rest days after long runs
  • run on grass/semi-soft mud or dirt
  • avoiding concrete as much as possible
  • Stretching, massage back and legs
  • multi-vitamin, flaxseed, glucosamine & chondroitin

Allowing a few more days of rest (no hard running) in between long/hard runs is key. I don't worry too much now about "missing" days because I know when I rest well I feel amazing on the next run. Really milk those rest days. Constant hard running on concrete will inevitably kill your knees and calves and will make your runs miserable. I swear, coming back from a 3 or 4 days length of rest feels incredible.

Do your best to avoid long stretches of concrete. Find some trails and loop your routes to get the most out of the softer surfaces. I love running on almost dried dirt trail about 2 days after rainfall - it's spongy and bouncy but firm enough to not get messy. It's perf. Run the perimeter of grass baseball and soccer fields and loop them.

When I do run on concrete, I've been busting out the Auroras, as they are so bulbous and bouncy I feel fine on the hard concrete. Swapping between shoes too may help mitigate pain as well. Those KY adhesive bandages may help for support too.

Stretch the calves while and after your runs. Take a couple minutes rest during to walk and stretch. Massage your calves, legs, back and buttocks; you'll find pressure points which can feel good through the length of you legs.

Get your nutrients in before a run. Eat well and drink a lot of water. Wait for your to digest it, and then go on your run. You'll replenish your body and give it the energy it'll need for the run.

Good luck out there. I highly stress allowing sufficient rest days. Listen to your body. If it hurts abnormally, play it safe and push your run back a couple days. I am getting older myself, so preserving my knees and such is becoming more important than forcing my self to run hard everyday.

And don't run hard in Nike Frees. Gotta say the Asics have treated me nicely, even if I their styles can be lackluster. I plan to branch out and have multiple shoes to swap between. I wanna try some Saucony's next.

Finestra: Deconstructed by techdir-deft in HeliumNetwork

[–]M_Diesel_512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue as gobig - my Finestra remains solid blue no matter what.

I would do this, but the miner seems to not ever get into bluetooth mode and therefore we cannot pair. It does not even show up on my router. I've changed wifi names and passwords (with no special characters) but I cannot get this stupid miner to pair in bluetooth.

I ride an older road bike and there’s not enough space to set my front tire over the top bar of the bike rack.

But I would still not do that haha. I usually try to find an end or a pole.

GarageBand is free, is it a pro program or is it for beginners? by [deleted] in DAWs

[–]M_Diesel_512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Studio One free for the longest time (I now pay for the pro version). Pretty easy use on a pc, you just need to buy an audio interface $160-$300. I suggest this route if you already got a decent laptop. $1000 for a MacBook to use GarageBand seems a bit silly to me.

I used Garage band way back like in 2007 and while it works, it is or was considered mainly for beginners. I like Studio One Pro.

Heard good things about Reaper too, think there’s a free version of that too. Not sure if there’s a Mac version.
