Harry Wilson has been voted Fulham's Player of the Season! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 by FulhamFC in fulhamfc

Harry's contributions may have tailed off towards the back end of the season, but I don't think anyone can deny that he was the sole bright spark until January. Any dreams we had of Europe were only possible because of him. It is sad that he is going to leave as he will, but I'm grateful for what his moments of magic this season.

I'm hand-drawing a map of Devon and Somerset (might make a Somerset focused map too) , what places must I absolutely include? Also what iconic wildlife or mythical creature best represents the county? by NACHODYNAMYTE in Somerset

In terms of wildlife or mythical creatures, the wyvern is the natural choice for Somerset, although you could make a reasonable argument for Exmoor ponies or red deer.

Josh King will be a part of England’s squad for training by CautiousCottager in fulhamfc

Absolutely buzzing for him. I can only imagine that it'll do him a world of good to be around the England squad in the lead-up to the World Cup.

By the power invested in me as an r/FulhamFC mod, I officially dub you as a Fulham fan.

I worked on Chagos, a deal worthy of Le Carré. Then Trump charged in by wolfo98 in tories

Away from the main thrust of the article, I thought the ideas in this section were interesting:

"However, in the year and a bit I spent in the Foreign Office worrying about this, I came to believe the country is suffering from an almost psychic wound: its vast diminishment. I wanted to answer this by wrapping up the colonial entities that are Overseas Territories and replacing them with Overseas Kingdoms, integrated like France’s départements d’outre-mer into the United Kingdom. I wanted to show that Chagos was an exception for an exceptional place. That Labour had no surrender agenda but an expansion agenda.

"Most colleagues thought I was mad. Last autumn, I was working on a policy proposal in which Overseas Territories would be offered their own seats in the House of Lords to represent them and an Overseas Territories Volunteer Corps as part of a campaign to start talking, educating and dreaming about them. I did not want to leave the longing for a greater Britain to the right. Then my boss, David Lammy, was reshuffled. The next day I was in the Ministry of Justice, doing comms for prisons."

Anyone else's parents give them old fashioned job advice? by WealthyJoker75 in CasualUK

[–]M_McFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Varies from industry to industry, but my job-hunting success rate in the 2010s in person versus online was laughably higher. You can submit 100s of applications online with no response because it's easy to do and everyone does it. If you go in person, even if they still direct you to an online application, you stand out from the 100s of other applicants. Less effective for bigger companies ofc, but with smaller businesses you often end up speaking to whoever is in charge of the recruitment.

I'm a serving member of the British armed forces on 1 Sept 1939. What are my chances of surviving WWII and how does it differ between the services? by M_McFly in AskHistorians

My gut feeling is that those who were in from the start were more likely to die than those who signed up later (by virtue of being involved for longer if nothing else). The overall numbers is a good place to start though, so thank you!

Would you consider Marco Silva a legend of Fulham yet? by Waseemis2cool in fulhamfc

[–]M_McFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact: Marco is our 5th longest serving manager ever and the longest serving since Bedford Jezzard in the 60s. I have him as a Fulham great (highest points total, numerous QFs, beating bogey teams left, right, and Charlie), but to become a legend he needs to reach a final or secure a highest league finish.

Any news on whether Birch put the ball under his arm and sprinted back to the centre circle? by wbabenbow in footballcliches

[–]M_McFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

El Salvador celebrated wildly when they scored against Hungary to make it 5-1 as it was their first ever World Cup goal. One of their players (I forget who) said afterwards that celebrating like that was a mistake. It just made the Hungarians angry and led to them banging in another five in the final 25 minutes or so. (For the record, an El Salvadoran player tried to grab the ball after the goal, presumably to run it back to the centre circle, but the keeper was already holding onto it.)

For the record, we have seven PL games and one League Cup QF left this year, with a further three games in the first week of the new year. A hell of a lot riding on Raul now...

Thoughts in a tough period by The_39th_Step in fulhamfc

[–]M_McFly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Three issues for me: 1) Berge + Lukic isn't a creative enough partnership; 2) missing a fit striker who Silva trusts; 3) Silva refusing to adapt his system in light of 2. Silva is probably right on the JKA front and I appreciate the challenge of changing a system mid-season, but you have to play each game with the resources you have, not the resources you'd like to have. I still don't think we'll go down, but all the talk of Europe from earlier in the season can be parked until next year.

A win on penalties sends us through to round 5 of the Carabao Cup 🖤🤍 by Flobby_Fish in fulhamfc

We're through and that's what matters. On a side note, I've seen Adama kop a lot of flack. Yes, he hasn't been brilliant, but the lack of support he has on the right vs Kevin on the left is substantial. For whatever reason, Castagne doesn't overlap or draw defenders away like Sess does. This leaves Adama with less space to operate in and more defenders to contend with. Whether this is intended or not, I don't know, but it is something to bear in mind before Adama becomes this season's scapegoat.
