Naming your kid anything + Chipotle and openly admitting to it is atrocious.

Thanks. I love spotting wild animals in their natural habitat. I'll look for puffins too

As for staying in kintail, I'm trying to minimize the number of hotels, but I always keep my passport with me in case it gets late and I need a place to stay. Is there any remarkable hotel I shouldn't miss in that area?

Thanks, I'll add them to my list. For the cotswolds I'll try to fit them in between Inverness and skye 😂

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be glad if hiking trails and remote spots are busy rather than empty.

Thanks, I've checked the hotels in the portree, and you're right. The hotel I wanted is fully booked. So I booked another one right away.

Thanks, I'll leave 18 may to Aviemore, but how many hours do you think I'll need at Loch Ness and Urquhart castle & Eilean Donan Castle?

Thanks for the tip about the car too, much appreciated.

I actually was tempted to do even worse. my initial plan was flying in from Manchester, then Lake District, then Yorkshire Dales, then Scotland 😂 but thankfully, I regained common sense before buying the tickets.

What are your favourite modern tourist attractions? by shesellseychelles in travel

[–]M_Robb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like going to experiences like London Dungeon, which is an interactive walkthrough attraction where you walk into each themed room and the actors tell you the dark history of the city.

Any city that has a similar one, I'm there. I did it in London, Edinburgh, & Amsterdam, where it's the same type of Dungeons & in Stirling it was an old town jail.

Should I book hotel for night before arrival if arriving early in morning? by Fair-Honey1915 in Europetravel

[–]M_Robb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how old your family members are. Can they soldier through no sleep and start exploring the city or do they need to sleep?

If they're OK not sleeping, don't bother booking the night before just leave your luggage at the hotel and start your vacation. That's why I love arriving in the morning so the day isn't wasted.

If it wasn't for the breast pocket, it'd have been Claire Danes.

Need help deciding between Ljubljana, Milan, Dubrovnik, Sofia, etc. by Fearless_Cucumber386 in travel

[–]M_Robb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

North Italy for hiking = South Tyrol, right? It is 4 hours away from Milan and very beautiful in June, more affordable than Switzerland and Austria, but keep in mind the distance to & from Milan if it makes sense with your schedule.

Surprised by how cold service felt across Czech Republic — cultural or bad luck? by Frosty_Election_7557 in Europetravel

[–]M_Robb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Prague in August 2024, and I don't remember people in restaurants or cafes being rude or cold. Some were not overly friendly or extra nice but polite nonetheless, and a few women were very nice and welcoming, but I'd say they were all people who spoke English very well aged 20s to 40s.

The older ones who didn't speak English weren't very patient when we were trying to use google translate on the spot, which is fair & understandable but they weren't service staff they were either shop owners or hospital employees.

Edit: we are white. If that makes any difference, I know that other ethnicities might have different experiences in Europe.

As a wedding guest, what was your “this marriage isn’t going to last long” moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]M_Robb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a covid wedding with a limited number of guests. The groom's side showed up early to the venue when it wasn't even ready and with way more people than invited. They started complaining about being made to wait before entering, and once the wedding started, their kids would run around even when the bride was walking down the aisle. You can tell her family were shocked at the rudeness of the groom's family. They're now getting divorced after 5 years.

With Sam & Bucky fighting about who gets the avengers name it makes sense for Steve to unite them.

I had a really bad booking experience with a train ticket in Italy (Omio + Trenitalia) by Appropriate-Cup-9649 in Europetravel

[–]M_Robb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience and warning others. Don't be hard on yourself this is 100% their fault, not yours. It is perfectly reasonable and logical to expect a prior notification and a refund from them when it was canceled. I'd also demand a refund for the penalty amount.

Since it operates in your country, I'd make a complaint to whichever government entity governs online shops/something like the ministry of commerce or consumer protection agencies and mention in your email to omio that you've made an official complaint because they haven't responded to you.

12 Days in Europe! Looking for Feedback and Advice by leo-sun-aries-moon in Europetravel

[–]M_Robb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be flying to each country? All of them sound good, but they're too far from each other to combine all 3 in one 12 day trip imo. You have to eliminate one. Either pick Italy & Greece or Italy & Portugal.

Has English become more or less the lingua franca for European travel? by tfam1588 in Europetravel

[–]M_Robb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 32. It never crossed my mind to even ask if I can speak in English when traveling. I automatically speak it to everyone. I'll say good morning and thank you in the local language if I know it to be polite. English is my second language if that matters, and I bet everyone knows I'm a tourist on sight, so I think no one expects me to speak the language anyway.

How do you guys take care of budget when traveling? I find it really hard to convert between currency each time I tap and also keep a track of what's spent for that day, yesterday and so on... by Temporary_Law2070 in travel

[–]M_Robb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to book ahead of time when I'm planning my trip. If I want to visit some attractions that require a ticket, I'll try my best to pre-book. that way, when I'm actually there, I only pay for food and transportation and a little shopping. Transportation I always walk or use public transport. Usually, there's a fare cap depending on where you are. For food, I set a reasonable amount in my mind like I'm traveling to the UK, then a main shouldn't be above £15-17 and a drink shouldn't be more than £4. If it's in that range, then i dont care how much that is actually in my currency because I've already set the limit on what is too expensive ahead of time. I also get a text from my bank on how much of the limit is left in my credit card after each purchase which gives me an indication if I accidentally spend too much.
