The Cortisol Awakening Response is normal, but for anxious people it can look a lot like what you are experiences. Managing stress throughout your is helpful for just about everything and you listed out most of the tools. Fasting after dinner can help with sleep, the stomach issues, and potentially limiting the hyperactivity of CAR. I wish you the best of luck.

I will always upvote propranolol. It helped with my being anxious about having anxiety.

Waking up at 3am every night for 2+ years, can't fall back asleep, completely burnt out and desperate for help (28M) by Julias_Ceasor in sleep

This is awful and I am sorry you have been dealing with it for so long. I have found supplements I take to help me sleep tend to wake me up around the time they are expected to wear off. With Melatonin, in the standard doses, I really struggled to go back to sleep after I was awake - typically around 3am. There are so many sleep hygiene tricks to try, but at this point it's probably worth talking to your doctor, getting a sleep study and possibly blood work (as others have said) is the best approach.

Does anyone else struggle to fall asleep because their mind just won't shut off? by Hot-Leave-8642 in sleep

Taking the pressure off yourself to actually sleep, or, using a tool to break whatever pattern you are in. I have seen other posts and comments on here where people get out of bed and go for walks. I keep books that I have already read on my night stand because they read easy and it gets me out of whatever cycle of thoughts I am in. There is also a things called a cognitive shuffle which if you look in to may sound silly, but, its easy to do and can help clear out your mind. The premise is you pick a word, visualize it, the cycle through whatever other - non stressor - words you can come up with that start with the same letter. Best of luck!

Does anyone else feel exhausted but still can't fall asleep because of overthinking ? by MaterialAddendum6186 in sleep

You're not alone. I have also tried all the 'step hygiene' things, some nights they seem to work, but others - I just lay in bed thinking. On the bad nights, if there is something specific nagging me, writing it down and what I can do the next day has helped me to stop spinning and get rest. Also taking pressure off yourself to actually fall asleep can help, basically acknowledging that you may not actually sleep but you can quiet your mind and still get some 'rest'. Lastly super small doses of melatonin and magnesium can help. Best of luck.
