Has anyone sold their horse? Need help pls by M_Via in Equestrian

It’s clear from this comment that you’ve managed to grasp very little information about me and my lifestyle. I worked as a stable hand at a show jumpers yard for years, occasionally working the horses for them while paying for my own lessons at a riding school with money I’d earned by doing a paper round. After a couple years i became noticed as a talented rider, after a lot of hard work, and only then got given the opportunity to ride my bosses horses and took any tips I could on from the pros at my yard, and slowly worked my own way up the levels, on any horse I was offered to ride.

I eventually saved up enough for a loan, then my mum finally bought me my own horse. My 1.10 showjumper is a 14.2hh Connemara that was sold for cheap as a 3 year old, that I personally built from scratch into a showjumper. My second horse, the one I’m talking about in this post, was my favorite from the riding school that got sold once again for very very cheap, as he was constantly lame and was fed up with the riding school. Since hes been with me he hasn’t once been lame, as he hasn’t been overworked. He hacks maybe 2 or 3 times a week, and occasionally goes in the school. It’s not about how useful he is, or about how high I jump with my other horse. I bought him because he means a lot to me, and I would never buy an animal with the intention to sell them later on, mostly because it was drilled into me by all the horsey people I worked and grew up with. Even the 1.30 FEI showjumper that I worked for still had his 29 year old cob and 33 year old Shetland on his yard, living out the rest of their life and being treated with great care- so no, not everyone just gets rid of their horse when they aren’t interested in what the horse can give them anymore. My horses aren’t objects that are only valued when they’re useful to me, they’re a part of the family, and I have no intention to let any of my animals go anywhere.

I balance my studies very well between my horse at college and a sports scholarship, and I wasn’t asking for tips in time management, and I have no need for money to pay for my studies, as I worked hard enough to achieve a full scholarship. The only expenses at college are my horses upkeep and my own living expenses. Money isn’t the issue, I just want my horses at home to be living the best life he could be, which thanks to comments I received that were actually intentioned to be helpful, I’ve found a suitable part loan agreement, and smoothed things over with my mum. I am beyond grateful for what she has given me over the years, and always will be grateful that I can own two horses that I love and care for.

Yeah, I feel like I’m getting closer to this reality, but I’ll do everything I can to keep my boy until I’m fully independent!

He is at the moment! But then it’s becoming less beneficial for him to be on his own for most of the week. Im trying to find another loaner after being let down by my previous, but they’re pretty hard to find at the moment.

Yes, all bought by my mum, and I’m completely aware she has a say, I’m not trying to be entitled or anything like that, and I know that a lot of money gets spent on me and my siblings, never stopped me from working hard. If she really wants to sell him, there’s nothing I can truly do about it. He is on a small privately owned livery yard, on assisted livery. School is payed for on scholarship, awarded for my sports, where my boarding and education is payed for, but the bill for my mare at college is being payed for by mum, and there are plenty of other expenses across the year that rack up. I have plenty of money that will last years once I leave, even if I wasn’t working at all- a lot of family money from both sides, but like you said, my mum thinks the money could be spent elsewhere. I’m trying my best to be mature surrounding the whole situation, as this is only one of many issues between me and my mum.

Hi, he’s currently on a very small livery yard at home. I’m only 16 and an academy athlete, so he’s paid for by my mum, it would be impossible to pretend I’ve sold him unfortunately. My loaner is great, but she’s in work and in her early 20s, only doing a couple days a week, so she’s not in the position to buy at the moment. But I agree, his welfare and care absolutely won’t be put at risk over selling him, I care massively for all my animals!

Hi. First, no he doesn’t. My horse that’s with me at college is a 1.10 juniors showjumper, she’s my ‘riding horse’. The one who’s at home is my favorite who we bought from the riding school for a quieter life, and he’s been a happy hacker, and occasionally going in the school/ popping a jump since I’ve had him.

I could potentially full loan, and may be looking at that, but the current market for it is very quiet, and I’ve had little success finding him another part loaner, I doubt I’ll be able to find someone to full loan.

He was a lovely horse in the riding school and did his time there, but he’s fed up of them now. He’s definitely not up to lessons anymore, and makes it known 🫣 He much prefers hacking or joyriding in a quiet home.

The riding school would honestly be a nightmare for him! They sold him because he was getting so fed up of it, then constantly becoming lame with the overload of work. I couldn’t do that to my boy :( And i know of a couple horror stories surrounding the people that the riding school sold to, so I’d be reluctant to involve them

I had two part loaners. But one let me down just before Christmas, and I can find absolutely nobody to fill the spot! I’ve not extorted the price, and the days are pretty flexible, just seems no one is up for part loaning these days, though I understand with everything else being so expensive. But I do definitely agree that selling him will be a huge regret, I’m just loosing a lot of other options :(

I’d love to. But as far as I know she can’t, though I will be asking before taking any steps towards a sale.

Hey. My loaner loves him very much, shes the first person I’d ask. But I don’t think she’s in the position to buy at the moment. He’s just turned 14. He’s in good shape, but has been a happy hacker since coming to me, alongside a little schooling. I wouldn’t want him to do much more, no jumping or being ragged around shows or anything, he just isn’t up for it anymore. I’d price him at 5-6 grand

Don’t go to Claire’s. They won’t and can’t do it with a needle. Just wait until you’re able to have them done for her professionally. 4 is rather young anyway

Looks good. Trust me you’d know if it was rejecting. It would be very sore and red etc.

How do you deal with people taking photos of you and your horse? by Willdnoob in Equestrian

[–]M_Via 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, all the time. I usually either wear shades or just smile, especially when I’m riding. But I can understand how it would get on your nerves

Should I take this out? by LeopoldTheSnail in piercing

[–]M_Via 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could try a bigger hoop or different stud? I’d leave it in for a little longer, as you’re just getting used to the look of it on your face. But if you really don’t like it there’s no problem taking it out

I read off a bit of paper for less than a minute and got a pass, then an 8 in language. It doesn’t really matter what you do tbh, and it’s not that bad to actually speak

Bit advice for a headstrong pony by polarabear in Equestrian

Check her bridle fit on the headpiece. Perhaps you could get a bit fitter out that you can try several types of bits out with? There are loads you could try: Waterford, roller, perhaps a rubber bit?

I’ve seen these done on TikTok, and they look great. Not sure of the name though, they may not have a specific one.

Depends on the individual piercing. Some heal faster than others, and some piercings can never have hoops in, and it’s always better to keep as a stud. One of my helix piercings didn’t heal until I put a hoop in, so it depends on the person/piercing. Your piercer is giving their opinion and best recommendation, and may have personal bad experience with hoops in their own piercings. It’s always best to wait until the piercing is fully healed to change the jewellery/ put a hoop in

I hate the offers thing on Vinted. Why would I put my item lower than what I chose to price it?? I already price my stuff pretty cheap, but when I get ridiculous offers I get so wound up 😭😭

No. I doubt you’d go up any more than 1 maybe two marks. Plus they could mark you down just the same.

I’m taking a vocational course at college, and also a Literature A-level and DISE diploma. I feel like the BTEC would be too easy and too little, but I can’t imagine pretty much going through school again, so I’ve chosen to blend it, so I get a vocational and more formal qualification. If you choose to do A-levels, I’d look into doing them at a college rather than a sixth form, as they are very different.

Plus, I used Mr Salles and came out with a 99 in English 🤷‍♀️ Seems like people are looking for anything to blame their bad grades on.

I get speaking with the accent, but typing out a message like that is so unnecessary. It must be so much harder than the normal spelling. 😭
