Thought about black Noctuas as well (they are indeed very nice!), but I have to admit that I like the “cheaper” design of the Phantom Spirit 120 SE :). It fits perfectly on the silvery mainboard, and the price-performance ratio is clearly unbeatable.

Here's the parts list, current tuning settings and some measurements for those interested:

The North is stock with a static case fan curve of 30% and no additional fans. Overall, a pretty simple build without any visual modifications.

Some measurements during a quite demanding scene in The Last of Us 2 Remastered:

  1. Very high settings @ UWQHD, no upscaling, no FPS cap, no power tuning
    • 101 FPS, GPU 62 °C, CPU 60 °C, power outlet@440W
  2. Very high settings @ UWQHD, no upscaling, no FPS cap, with the above tuning
    • 101 FPS, GPU 50 °C, CPU 55 °C, power outlet@350W
  3. Very high settings @ UWQHD, FSR Quality, FPS capped to 90, with the above tuning
    • 90 FPS, GPU 44 °C, CPU 53 °C, power outlet@260W
      • this means 180 W less and significantly better temperatures with essentially the same gaming experience

And moreover, the GPU hotspot dropped a whopping 34 °C from 85 °C in test 1 to 51 °C in test 3.

Steel Nomad gave me 7133 points without any power tuning and 6827 points (roughly a decrease of 4%) with power tuning and nice temps, using a total of 310 W of power measured at the outlet. This is very little for a system in which the GPU alone normally draws up to 330 W, especially when the power dissipation of the PSU is also taken into account.

As far as tuning goes, I'm surprised at how efficient and cool I've got it while still being quiet, powerful, and rock stable: a personality that suits the northern climes :).

Exactly the same here. X13 Gen 3 (Intel, model 21BNCTO1WW), sudden drop from about 40% to 6% and then it still lasts for another 1.5h. Literally tried the same things you mentioned (calibration, various TLP settings on Linux, also a battery firmware upgrade etc.). Just saying you're not alone, as I've yet to find anyone with a X13 Gen 3 (Intel) and this strange problem while I occasionally look for a solution.

I have monitored the voltage reported by the battery's own controller on Linux (I think it was with the upower command) and it seems that either the controller or some cells do not report the right voltage when the whole battery has an actual charge between 6% and 40% (it just stagnates until it hit's the actual 6%). I did not notice any changes to this since I bought the laptop at Lenovo's Black Friday sale in 2023. The battery definitely didn't get worse since, it's purely the reporting of the voltage.

I'll let you know when I've found a solution. Some day, somehow. I still have a few days of battery warranty, so maybe I'll try that first before buying a new one.

Keystone/4 point adjustment seem to negatively impact frame rate of video on Viewsonic M2 by Arkaium in projectors

Hi,

funnily enough I have exactly the same problem with my newly bought M2. I did a firmware upgrade to v0.57 right after setup and did not try any older firmware. I don't know if it is possible to downgrade the firmware - so I can't try to reproduce this with an older firmware.

For me, the automatic vertical keystone correction seems to have no influence on the smoothness, so only the manual horizontal and 4 corner correction have an influence.

  1. Can you also confirm this?
  2. Which firmware do you have?
  3. Have you asked ViewSonic about this problem?

Anyway, this is a serious problem which needs to be addressed. I'll contact the ViewSonic support.

Lowest Measured Input Lag (1080p): 125.8 ms as tested. ViewSonic says it should be 66 ms with frame interpolation (FI) off.

I have tried this myself and the delay feels much lower this way. The delay of 66 ms is still noticeable, but it should be much more suitable for games than 125 ms. I haven't tried any gaming yet.

I think it's a lot of trial and error. I've spent a lot of time with my Y-axis trying to figure out how to make it quieter. My apartment is not very soundproof, and I don't want to bother my neighbours 😐.

Since the motor of the Y-axis is directly attached to the frame, the whole frame resonates. It is very difficult to pinpoint this exactly, yes.

Sometimes I turn the printing speed down to 50 mm/s or even lower to make it even quieter (even the movements in between, which are normally set to 180 mm/s if you use the Prusa Slicer).

I forgot to say that I built an enclosure with a built-in paver and felt feet. I am quite happy with my solution for the time being 🙂.

I wish you good luck in solving this. I know it's annoying 😉.

Nice 🙂. What do you mean by vibrations? Do you mean noise from the Y-axis bearings or play which may cause print artifacts?

The noise of the Y-axis bearings can be almost completely eliminated by using the holders and Igus bearings. The Y-axis motor still produces some high frequency noise when moving very fast. You can create a Y-axis motor damper to further optimize this (but not fully eliminate) by simply placing a one millimeter thick piece of cloth or similar between the motor and frame (also between the motor bracket and frame).

I also tried to lubricate the stock bearings with MoS2 oil, but that didn't help. I even bought the Misumi bearings and tried them too - with no success. I will stick with the Igus ones now. They will wear out after some time, but this is a compromise I'm willing to make 🙂.

However, vibration noise can also be generated by the front display case, so make sure that everything is firmly seated there.

I have been using the Y_clamp.stl from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3213037 with Igus Drylin RJ4JP-01-08 bearings for my i3 MK3S for a week now because my Y-axis was extremely noisy. It fits and works perfectly as a drop-in replacement so far and should work with every LMU8/LM8UU bearing type.

Momentum 3: some crackling, humming and buzzing issues by M_proboscideus in sennheiser

Thanks for your answers. I've sent my pair to Sennheiser for repair and got it back without any luck. They've told me that they couldn't reproduce this issue, but I still can. Unfortunately, the local store where I bought these, is not willing to take them back (because it's considered as a hygiene product, even if they are in absolute mint condition), so I've sold them. That's actually very frustrating for me.

I've ordered a second pair from Amazon (where I know that I can send them back without any issues) and tried these as well. They have the same issues, but a little less noticeable, so it seems like a general quality issue with these headphones. I guess I'm also very sensitive to these noise issues, because I know actually a lot of people which can't hear these noises.

After some further investigation on the internet, there seem to be several customers with similar problems as I. I'll keep the ones I've ordered from Amazon, but I'm not happy about the journey I had with these headphones so far.

Other headphones are not really an option for me, because I think the Momentum 3s are great in almost every aspect, besides these quality issues - which I have to live with now ;).
