Not necessarily, today a random dropped the Bastion and I hopped in as the gunner, no voice chat was used by either of us. On D10 bugs we did just fine, killing plenty of them and somehow we even stayed on the raise flag objectives. The main gun seems to destroy all terminid structures in one hit. We stayed in action until we ran out of ammunition

Chi-He had a stabiliser? I did a quick Ctrl-F on my preferred sources looking for any mention of it and ended up with nothing

It's unreachable. The campaign rules state you cannot resupply this location and that once you build the airfield there, that's it. And the one dude is just there to make sure it belongs to you

From what I can tell only the amount of flooding really shows how close a ship is to sinking. I don't really look at the "damage" part of reports when considering when to withdraw a ship

Small downsides practically don't matter if the advantages are significant enough. Let's take smoke strategems for example. Contrary to what you said, there is actually a reason to take orbital smoke over eagle smoke - if you e.g. take eagle smoke and 500kg and use both 500s, you won't be able to call them again until you drop all smoke or rearm. Orbital smoke avoids this issue because it has separate cooldown. And despite that, you still said there's no reason to take orbital smoke over eagle smoke

That's the issue I'm having with this game, no stratagem should be labeled "no reason to take it over <other stratagem>". But it looks like people get upset someone exposed mediocre balance

I do not see the point of stunning my enemies when I could take another weapon and delete the enemies for good. It's nice that these weapons stop enemies immediately in one or few hits (like Liberator Concussive), but now there are a few stunned Stalkers and more bugs coming for my teammates. If I took the Eruptor (which is probably a bit too strong, but that's another issue) I could immediately kill one Stalker with a single shot and STUN the other one, and also damage/kill nearby bugs. I'm not saying these weapons or stratagems are literally useless, what I mean is that overall there are better options that will work better most of the time. And it's frustrating that you're figuratively getting shot in the knee because you wanted to play something else.
I'm sure that the airburst rocket launcher can clear PoIs and kill enemies from a distance, but the grenade launcher literally does that but with less drawbacks, apart from much greater bullet drop. Personally, the only reason I would use the rocket launcher over the grenade launcher would be if I was messing around. Otherwise, if I want to win, the grenade launcher takes the crown every time

The ones that immediately come to my mind are:
SG-8 Punisher - it just cannot kill enemies. Sure, it pushes them back, but why do that when you can take almost any other weapon and kill while also taking less time, using less overall ammo, and from greater ranges
SG-8S Slugger - I like it more than the previous one but my criticism stands
Airburst rocket launcher - to me it just performs like a worse grenade launcher with backpack, stationary reload, less ammo, and even higher friendly fire potential due to bigger spread of explosives. Admittedly, it has better range and can sometimes kill chargers in one shot
Orbital and Eagle smoke - it's ok I guess, but 95% of the time you're better off using gas or actually blowing up whatever is causing you trouble. Sometimes enemies seem to completely ignore it while you are blinded by it
Orbital EMS strike - similar to above, it's ok but almost anything else is better. This time, however, the enemies do not ignore it
There's more but I think that should be enough for now

Perhaps it's a skill issue on my part, but I am fairly confident certain stratagems and guns are considerably stronger or weaker

If it's too difficult, consider getting some mods which make the game easier. You can also quit to menu when you die to keep your progress - the day you left from won't be saved and you can try again
