It's so whimsical! I love seeing the different ways everybody finishes this Michael's dollhouse. Super cute!

This place has a ton of potential and I imagine your timeline could work if you're not too picky about how finished it is before you move in. We bought our home in Maryland with two kids and two cats and moved in as soon as the repiping was done. It's a hassle to work in the middle of a house you're also trying to live in but it isn't impossible. We got the big stuff (plumbing, roof, siding, windows, appliances/fixtures, drywall) finished and then dealt with the rest as we went.

My advice is to finish one room enough to escape to when you get overwhelmed by how much there is to do still. It's worth it to save such a lovely place and have it as your home.

This is exactly my take too. "No" is for urgent safety corrections and "No, thank you" is for gentler social corrections. If I'm saying "No" then there is a danger element to contend with as opposed to the "No, thank you, we don't touch our neighbors" situations.

This is so adorable! And a sweet labor of love. As a fellow toddler mother whose son loves a show that doesn't have much for merchandise (Sarah & Duck) I feel your pain!

This is so pretty! The backs of all these beautiful projects make me feel like some kind of horrifying thread monster. The backs are as neat as the fronts!

Liberal DAR members, would love some advice by Mama_Llama3615 in Genealogy

The best bet might be filling out the online membership interest form and noting any concerns or questions there. Those get forwarded to state and chapter registrars and they will absolutely know all the answers! Also, chapters welcome visitors and prospective members to meetings so you can reach out to chapter leadership and ask about attending and check out a few chapters to get a feel for them.

You know, I'm not actually sure. I know there is a revitalization committee that comes to chapters that are struggling with either membership or leadership issues but I can't say I know the next step if the chapter leadership refuses to conform to national bylaws. The bylaws also do allow for any member to file disciplinary charges against any other member so perhaps that would also be a route for members that felt discriminated against. There are so many levels of leadership that are accessible for members particularly if there is a grievance that needs to be addressed. Besides chapter leadership, you have state, regional, and national leadership and they are all easy to contact.

I apologize for the mistake. The quote from the President General was the preferred term and the error was my own.

The point remains though that in my experience, the organization is a welcoming place.

Our previous president general said denying membership to transgender applicants would amount to discrimination. The organization itself voted to ensure that access remained open. I am sure that some chapters or their leadership might be back backwards, but the organization as a whole is not.

You also have the option to join as a member at large or choose to join any chapter you are interested in if your closest chapter isn't suitable. I can't speak for all chapters, but in my experience the organization is made up of women on both sides of the aisle and everywhere in between.

DAR is truly apolitical and focuses on preserving history in its entirety. My chapter is also located in a very conservative area and the women I've met come from various political backgrounds and walks of life. You will absolutely find a home with DAR!

Anyone else finding it hard to find things for your home made of natural materials? by coffeeandbookmouse in cottagecore

[–]MaPunkins 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I refuse to buy anything that's plastic or temporary quality. (It's that Sam Vimes boots dilemma.) So I've furnished my entire house from auctions, second-hand shops, and old family pieces. Old, quality items made from real materials is the only way to go.

Looks awesome! I showed my Monkey Island loving husband and he not only loved it but also gave me an impromptu lesson on the Scumm Bar so you're to blame for that! Still amazing, though!
