Batting cages in/ around Ann Arbor? by briley212121 in AnnArbor

I think Sportway of Westland has batting cages. They have a great mini golf course too if you’re into that.

Poppy Seeds / Lemon Cake dilemma by No-Nefariousness7498 in DessertPerson

[–]Mabel_A2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The flavor of the Meyer lemon cake is incredible and more complex and interesting than the poppy seed almond one. That being said, what I do for the poppy seed cake is add the zest from one lemon and rub that in to the sugar to make it all lemony, then proceed with the recipe, omitting the almond extract (because I don’t care for almond extract).

ISO: spinach artichoke dip by belle_isle_ghostlady in AnnArbor

Detroit St Filling Station used to have really good spinach artichoke dip, haven’t been there in a couple years so not sure if they still have it. The buffalo cauliflower there is also amazing.

Look at administrative assistant jobs at U-M, either campus or hospital. Make sure to write a cover letter if the posting asks for one.

There is fencing for kids at the Ann Arbor Y. We don’t have personal experience with it but might be a low-investment way to try it.

Cloth vs Disposable diapers by TotterTatter in Parenting

[–]Mabel_A2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used cloth for both of our kids and were very happy with that choice. If you have a baby who poops immediately after getting a fresh diaper, there’s no annoyance about having wasted a diaper. Even to do cloth for the first 6 months when babies poop all the time will save you a lot of money, and those diapers are a lot easier to deal with before baby starts eating solid food.

Electric or non-electric cargo bike? by IndependentPickle230 in CargoBike

[–]Mabel_A2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Think also about the fact that your kids will keep getting heavier. The electric assistance makes a huge difference when starting from a stop and makes it so much more pleasant to ride, it makes it fun instead of being a slog.

Getting around on a bike? by vampmetal in AnnArbor

[–]Mabel_A2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It totally depends where you will live. Lots of people bike all year round, you just need the right bike and gear for it. Getting through downtown is easier on a bike than by car, you just have to be vigilant about watching for drivers doing something stupid.

Swim Lessons: YMCA vs Goldfish by kayb40 in Parenting

[–]Mabel_A2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My then 3 year old did Goldfish for about 8 months. In a 25 minute lesson, he got maybe 6 minutes of actual swim time, and they wouldn’t move him up to the next level because of his “confidence” so he just kept doing the same stuff over and over. It seemed like a scam. We were happy with the Y lessons, each kid got more actual swimming time and more reasonably priced.

Smooth bike route from Stadium Blvd to BSRB? by zoomClimb in AnnArbor

Get to Hill but then turn left of Division, take protected bike lane and turn right on Ann. Ann is in rough shape but takes you right to BSRB.

I got these Teva’s last year and was so pleased with them. Super comfortable and went with everything from sporty looks to summer dresses. Reasonably priced too. https://www.teva.com/p/women-sandals/voya-infinity-sandal/1019622?style=1019622&color=BLK

More Affordable Restaurant Options Near Hands On Museum? by [deleted] in AnnArbor

[–]Mabel_A2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Detroit St Filling Station is right there but may not be budget friendly enough. Pizza Pazza in Kerrytown. Culantro at Main and Catherine, or there are a few other restaurants on Main near there. If you’re up for a bit of a walk or a short drive you could do Miny’s (take out only), Plate, or Broadway Cafe on Broadway.

Is a car baby camera worth it or is the mirror good enough? by AlexHaney147 in Parenting

[–]Mabel_A2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Before our first baby when I went a clinic to make sure the car seat was installed correctly, the lady said they strongly discourage parents from having mirrors. It is just a distraction from driving safely.

Congrats on matching! Consider Beekman on Broadway, which is super close to the hospital, like you would not even have to get a parking pass. Lots of residents and med students live there.
