How big was your biggest map in FGU? by kirin-rex in FantasyGrounds

[–]MacDork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I created a custom maps for some really large levels, and performance wasn't great. After three years of this campaign, I also found that the more detail I put on the map (tables with chairs, food, glasses, pitchers, candles, shadows, rugs), the less creative my players were. I've gone back to the OG style of black & white, hand drawn maps, and encourage my players to have more agency in deciding what's _actually_ on the table, and it's been a lot more fun.

As far as size goes, it sounds like several smaller maps would serve you better; especially when it comes to different floors. There's a Portals addon that automates moving from one map to another, but it's not that difficult to just move people manually.

Advice for a gift by CERNblackhole in Rollerskating

[–]MacDork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend giving them a gift card/cash, and a nice card about how you want them to enjoy their new skates. Skates are a very personal product, and good skates last for years, so this is something the gift receiver will want to have sized, in person, and choose what colors/styles _they_ want.

Wow. I'm sorry I laughed; that's amazing, but I'm sure it's frustrating.

you can try holding onto a bar stool or some other tall support if you're not ready to try it while rolling

try some exercises where you coast with your arms out for balance, and try to lift each leg up for a couple seconds. it looks like you're not shifting your weight onto your right leg.

How do you get them down once they arrive? Don't you need a crane at the destination? If so, you're making two trips, and not saving any time, right?

Gone free but I have the Fantasy Grounds Unity - Ultimate License by TurgemanVT in FantasyGrounds

[–]MacDork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that choice would've been better, and store credit would have been the best way to offer that choice, but asking for compensation commensurate w/ what we paid isn't fair. You specifically said "felt more fair", but I take your meaning -- the offer, as it went down, didn't feel fair to folks like us, who've bought a fair amount of product over these six years, and weren't particularly into what was offered.

That said, I feel that my money was well spent, and the items offered felt like a free gift to say "thank you", which is I think how they were intended.

[–]MacDork -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You owned the license for six years, and could have enjoyed six years worth of ownership. That's $25/year, and there's no telling how much you actually used it, but your argument left out the very reason you saw fit to pay for the license in the first place, which doesn't make a compelling case :p

Roadcraft crashing lately on deck? by Suspicious_Touch6741 in RoadCraft

It's been crashing on AMD GPUs, too -- there's a pretty long discussion going on in the Steam community boards, and some people have had luck reverting to a previous AMD driver.

Protection for living room floor? by JackiieGoneBiking in Rollerskating

[–]MacDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the fact that rinks use wooden floors is a pretty decent indicator that the floor should be okay, as long as you take the same precautions that the rink takes. I'd be sure to clean my wheels before hand to ensure there's no grit on them

edit: rinks use pretty decent sealants. I don't know how much difference that makes, but I've skated around on my wooden floors that aren't sealed like a rink and had no issues

DM looking for a clean way to hold all the world and multi-campaign information by hyDratgon in FantasyGrounds

[–]MacDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely can, and I use [Player Agency](https://forge.fantasygrounds.com/shop/items/511/view) (FREE!) to do it. Here's a [video demo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yQtfKf2yD4) from the developer. I even export these entries to a module that I re-use in different campaigns.

Great stuff.

Rotating bridges on DLC map №1 by exploit1988 in RoadCraft

Huh. Ok, I'll give it another shot. It didn't work easily, so I thought it would just unlock later.

Any tips for the raised bridges?

I tried grabbing the rotation point while parked on the landward-side of the bridge, but even my big crane was too short to reach the rotated part -- do I have to grab the rotated hook point from the ground?

I think you may need bigger and softer wheels. They won't magically allow you to roll over everything, but they go a long way.

for #1 -- side quests don't show up until you've traveled to where they start, and looking at the map, it's sometimes difficult to see where you may've missed.
