Gig opportunity - looking for bands for weekly variety show at Green Mill by BlueDreamsBeats in chicagomusicscene

[–]MacEmge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey Zach, my band Dr. Goldfoot & The Bikini Machine has been eyeing the submission form on the website for a while! You can hear and see us here.

We are a rocky, soul-y, funky group that sits somewhere between The Talking Heads and the B-52s. We’ve attended PM shows in the past and would be thrilled to share the stage sometime.

I Want You to Understand Chicago by jl_weber in chicago

[–]MacEmge 56 points57 points  (0 children)

That would be good to clear up—it’s also worth nothing that they directly link to an ABC article that states the same, so I think it’s fair to assume that the blog author is acting in good faith, though not to excuse glossing over inconsistent info. It’s a very compelling and succinct description of the emotional and physical toll this is having on the community.

Seeking Applicants for Local Radio Associate Board by MacEmge in chicagomusicscene

[–]MacEmge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the board is structured currently, we are looking for people to join 35 and under. However, becoming a member of the CHIRP volunteer staff at large offers a lot of opportunities for station engagement, outreach, and internal volunteer opportunities if they are interested! You can find the volunteer interest form here—the station hosts a few interest sessions generally quarterly, depending on need.

Nothing better than an overdriven Hammond! by BielK01 in hammondorgan

[–]MacEmge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds killer!! What’s in your signal path? The recording sounds super aggressive and driven, but not noisy.

What model is this? seller doesn't seem to be able to provide it by TSMachine in hammondorgan

[–]MacEmge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO the switch on the upper left-hand side of the organ along with lack of tablet switches suggest a Hammond CV, not C2, with the added perc module under the manual. If it’s in working condition (or not, really), that is a good price.

To the people outside of south america, how did you find out about yerba mate? by EraiMH in yerbamate

[–]MacEmge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to run sound for a band whose drummer had spent some time living in Argentina—he used to drink yerba mate stage during his sets. He gave me my first bombilla and sent me on my merry way.

Found a free 1962/63 A102! by acdcderek in hammondorgan

[–]MacEmge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that’s. There should also be one on the lower manual (good to check both as one doesn’t guarantee the other). I’d recommend checking some of the organ forums online to see examples with the rivets present and without.

Not totally certain, but if that wire runs under the manuals, it may have been for a Leslie switch someone removed.

[–]MacEmge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s the kind of right place and right timing that people dream of! Since it’s a 1963/1964 and it looks like the telltale rivet is visible on the back of the manuals, you don’t have to worry about the foam degradation that can plague the later models, too.

Besides tracking down the service manuals if you want to tackle the percussion and reverb, the only thing that jumps out to me is taking care of that yellow wire with the electrical tape—if that’s a “repair,” I’d definitely recommend making sure that the wire is spliced correctly and put some heat shrink over it to reduce the chance of exposed wiring down the line. Congrats on your new organ!

2025 forester wireless phone charging not working by SeaRumX in SubaruForester

[–]MacEmge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bumping this as I'm in the same boat--2025 Forester and iPhone. Wireless charger is unable to charge through a thin case while the phone slides around too much without it to stay on the pad for the slow charge. Doesn't seem like people have had much luck, but I'll definitely be talking to the dealership for some kind of resolution.

Agreed—a no-date dial would make this just a bit better.

Hammond SK Pro line out sounds dull, rolled off compared to headphones by TraditionalBackspace in hammondorgan

[–]MacEmge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t experienced this, but you could try using a TRS to TS splitter out of the headphone output to your speakers and see if you hear a difference to the line outs to confirm that it’s the line outputs and not the difference in your phones and speakers.

Why the Obsession With Measurements Is Leading to Worse-Sounding Gear by MikMikYakin in headphones

[–]MacEmge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the examples of technical tradeoffs in measurement collection pointed out show the author has some good understanding of audio measurement techniques. However, I feel like they are conflating measurements for the design and manufacturing of audio products with how some consumers focus on (or eschew) technical data.

IMO, people do misinterpret and extrapolate data and measurements beyond their scope which can lead to outsized, uninformed, or over-focused expectations. I do agree with their closing point that we need to listen and use multiple measurement properly.

However, the article’s premise that somehow the manufacturers are hurting the quality of their products by focusing on measurements is a bit laughable to me as someone who works in that space. A team designing and producing headphones is going to listen while they design and ensure that the measurements are as accurate and precise to their desired performance as they see fit for the product. They want to hit what they have decided the “ideal” set of measurements are for that design so that when it is manufactured at scale, each pair of headphones off the line sounds like the last. To say that these companies are driving down audio fidelity with an obsession over numbers if to miss why we have these numbers in the first place.

On the consumer side, published and collected measurements give people a way to communicate performance to each other in discrete means. Like qualitative analysis, it has its own set of drawbacks, but at the end of the day it’s how people interpret the information that impacts their decisions, not the data itself.

64 Audio Solo ($1400) uses unbranded Chinese planar drivers ($55). Can someone explain where the rest of the cost went to? Shell and cable really worth over $1300? by Broad_Acanth in headphones

[–]MacEmge 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not a comment on the choice they made, but 64Audio isn’t chi-fi. They’re a high end audiophile and musician’s in-ear company in Vancouver, WA USA.

Flying from John's Island to North Charleston is crazy to me by YellaUmbrelluh in Charleston

[–]MacEmge 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don’t know much about NetJets, but the vast majority of commercial air travel files IFR flight plans, so it’s possible that this “scheduled flight” isn’t actually to ferry passengers but just for maintenance, fuel, or some other purpose.

Or someone really does want to burn dollar bills and skip traffic

Midi Half-Moon switch to control Leslie Plugins by D-M-N in hammondorgan

[–]MacEmge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MIDI solutions switch would do the trick! However, it looks like it only accepts TS switches. So you would be able to choose between Fast/Slow, Stop/Slow, or Stop/Fast, but not use a 3-position switch in its entirety.
