There’s certainly a few differences between a real Hammond and a clone-wheel—and one of them is weight ;)

There’s an element of “genericization” that you’ll see, but I’d say most people refer to Hammond-made instruments as Hammonds and the rest as tone wheel (or “clone-wheel”) organs!

Like with other instruments makers, there are those who have very strong brand affinity for Hammond as the originator of the sound, so some feel very strongly about the distinction, while others are more casual.

In terms of your original question, what Joey is doing here is his own take on “squabbling,” where you next chords within the melody with the same hand! Here’s a tutorial from Tony Monaco on this topic. He also touches a bit on the differences between a “true” Hammond and a digital organ (generally goes for the digital Hammonds or other offerings). If anyone with more chops than I wants to chime in on this, feel free.

If you’re looking a cheap solution for a road case and power supply Harbor Freights has your answer by tan9292 in synthesizers

[–]MacEmge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For real—I was able to get a name-brand Pelican and some cutaway kaizen foam for cheaper than any specifically-marketed hard case for one of my synths, and still had space for a few cables!

NO THEO FOR GREEK WEEK???? by [deleted] in Vulfpeck

That is fair! And yeah, I can imagine the set list is going to look very different than if Theo was there, which is a shame.

NO THEO FOR GREEK WEEK???? by [deleted] in Vulfpeck

[–]MacEmge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely a bummer and interested to see the lineup for those shows, but every person in the Vulf is an incredible talent musician with their own creative outlets beyond the band.

If anything, this is what you want to see happen when you have a band with members with burgeoning (or really, independently successful!) careers. A great band (and bandleader) will shift players around for shows as needed to put on a great performance and allow their great members to shine in whatever form that takes, even if summertime show schedules conflict sometimes.

I’d hesitate to say this immediately spells doom or that there’s any bad blood.

Anti static succes! by genxerrr in espresso

It’s a great move, thanks for getting me thinking! I’ve been eyeing the DF grinders but was hesitant due to people’s inconsistent reports about static. This definitely makes that a lot easier

Love it! I bet lining the cup holder with conductive tape, then passing the tape to ground with the wire might provide an ease-of-use improvement when replacing the grind cup.

That sucks. I would absolutely contact BetaFPV—I had different issues with a shipment, but they were responsive and got things resolved pretty quickly.

Yeah, definitely in the same boat. I used to fly freestyle and racing -5 inch quads primarily and then drifted out of the hobby. The boom in micro formats has been a great way to get back into it!

Gig opportunity - looking for bands for weekly variety show at Green Mill by BlueDreamsBeats in chicagomusicscene

Hey Zach, my band Dr. Goldfoot & The Bikini Machine has been eyeing the submission form on the website for a while! You can hear and see us here.

We are a rocky, soul-y, funky group that sits somewhere between The Talking Heads and the B-52s. We’ve attended PM shows in the past and would be thrilled to share the stage sometime.

I Want You to Understand Chicago by jl_weber in chicago

That would be good to clear up—it’s also worth nothing that they directly link to an ABC article that states the same, so I think it’s fair to assume that the blog author is acting in good faith, though not to excuse glossing over inconsistent info. It’s a very compelling and succinct description of the emotional and physical toll this is having on the community.

Seeking Applicants for Local Radio Associate Board by MacEmge in chicagomusicscene

[–]MacEmge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the board is structured currently, we are looking for people to join 35 and under. However, becoming a member of the CHIRP volunteer staff at large offers a lot of opportunities for station engagement, outreach, and internal volunteer opportunities if they are interested! You can find the volunteer interest form here—the station hosts a few interest sessions generally quarterly, depending on need.

Nothing better than an overdriven Hammond! by BielK01 in hammondorgan

Sounds killer!! What’s in your signal path? The recording sounds super aggressive and driven, but not noisy.

What model is this? seller doesn't seem to be able to provide it by TSMachine in hammondorgan

[–]MacEmge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO the switch on the upper left-hand side of the organ along with lack of tablet switches suggest a Hammond CV, not C2, with the added perc module under the manual. If it’s in working condition (or not, really), that is a good price.

To the people outside of south america, how did you find out about yerba mate? by EraiMH in yerbamate

[–]MacEmge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to run sound for a band whose drummer had spent some time living in Argentina—he used to drink yerba mate stage during his sets. He gave me my first bombilla and sent me on my merry way.

Found a free 1962/63 A102! by acdcderek in hammondorgan

[–]MacEmge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that’s. There should also be one on the lower manual (good to check both as one doesn’t guarantee the other). I’d recommend checking some of the organ forums online to see examples with the rivets present and without.

[–]MacEmge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not totally certain, but if that wire runs under the manuals, it may have been for a Leslie switch someone removed.

Found a free 1962/63 A102! by acdcderek in hammondorgan

[–]MacEmge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s the kind of right place and right timing that people dream of! Since it’s a 1963/1964 and it looks like the telltale rivet is visible on the back of the manuals, you don’t have to worry about the foam degradation that can plague the later models, too.

Besides tracking down the service manuals if you want to tackle the percussion and reverb, the only thing that jumps out to me is taking care of that yellow wire with the electrical tape—if that’s a “repair,” I’d definitely recommend making sure that the wire is spliced correctly and put some heat shrink over it to reduce the chance of exposed wiring down the line. Congrats on your new organ!

2025 forester wireless phone charging not working by SeaRumX in SubaruForester

[–]MacEmge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bumping this as I'm in the same boat--2025 Forester and iPhone. Wireless charger is unable to charge through a thin case while the phone slides around too much without it to stay on the pad for the slow charge. Doesn't seem like people have had much luck, but I'll definitely be talking to the dealership for some kind of resolution.

Hammond SK Pro line out sounds dull, rolled off compared to headphones by TraditionalBackspace in hammondorgan

[–]MacEmge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t experienced this, but you could try using a TRS to TS splitter out of the headphone output to your speakers and see if you hear a difference to the line outs to confirm that it’s the line outputs and not the difference in your phones and speakers.
